Brentford fan here, just saw the news that we signed Ryan Williams and thought i would come on here to see what you guys thought of him in his time there.
I noticed that a lot of supporters were suprised by this signing, please allow me to give you a little bit of info on our club as it is run at the moment.
I'm not sure if you have read or heard but Brentford have been in the media recently regarding the new direction the club has gone in with regards to finding and signing new players. Our owner's business background is that of sports statistics and analytics, and as such his company produces reports for teams (especially in America where everything is so statistic based) regarding everything that a player does whilst performing for their team (i.e. pass % ratio, distance ran, minutes per goal, home lifestyle choices the list is pretty endless). These reports a very detailed and not only are used for the purposes of showing wether a player is worth signing but also to help bring players on in their game and used as a coaching tool.
That said our owner (approx 18 months ago) purchased another football team in Denmark called FC Midtjylland. He imposed his "moneyball" ideas (as in the film) as this is how the media are referring to his way of working on FC Midtjylland, and last season for the first time ever won the Danish superleage (a league which has for years been dominated by FC Copenhagen) and as such ha;-s qualified for the chanmpions league next season.
With that said and moving back on topic of the signing of Ryan Williams, this signing would have been based on the methods mentioned previously using our owners vast reasource of sports statistics and scientific based research (strange sounding i know) as our owner wants Brentford to move to the same very successful system he put in place at FC Midtjylland last season. As such a lot of signings being made by Brentford will be of lesser known players (no disrescpect to Ryan Williams) who have proven scientific and statistical data to back up the signing and not signed purely on scouting reports where a player may have had a few good games then fails to perform when signed (we have had a lot of those in our past).
Sorry to make this post so long but thought it would be a chance to explain "our" side of the transfer as a lot of supporters here seem very suprised by this signing, only time will tell i guess.
Best of luck for next season and every success even though if my memory serves Michael Twiss always seemed to have a blinder and score against us when playing you guys in the past

Best of luck to use next season, I don't think you'll see much of williams to be honest tho good set piece taker but doesn't like getting stuck in and is certainly not the type of player you want in your team when it gets physical against the likes of the Michael Browns an jay spearings of that league !
