O/T The Shrimps Comedy Club

Postby Christies Child » Thu Apr 07, 2016 3:41 pm

I for one would love to see a regular Comedy Club become a monthly feature at The Globe Grill (and I don't mean on the pitch  ) Other towns have them where up and coming comedians can learn their trade and could, with the right promotion become a regular haunt for the University Students living in the town as well as others.

It will be interesting to see what the turn out will be for the Morecambe and Wise comedy final at the club later this month. What an opportunity for the club to gather feed back from those attending for future promotions.

Do others on this forum think it is worthwhile looking into this further... :?: :?: :?:

Enough clowns on the pitch at the moment for a circus. Do we need more comedy off it?

yes, I think it is a good idea... although the initial reply made me smile!

Don't worry if it does happen hopefully the price would be cheap to encourage as many people as possible to be there. Hopefully use he Globe Grill as the venue....or whatever it is rebranded as... :?: :?: :?:

I bloody hate the phrase "Globe Bar & Grill"

Football Club. NOT Golf Club.

I went to the Eric Tribute night, also arranged by Jim Cadman. He gets bums on sets, but won't be aiming at the football fan market. Bit like a Gala Draw night.

Hope MFC make a few quid out of the venue

I've spoken to an event organiser who has considerable experience in the entertainment business and the problem that will probably face any such venture is that it will take at least 3 to 4 similar nights before any profit will be made. Even if the first night attracts 50 people at a cover charge of say £3.00 it is unlikely even to cover the cost of 4 'new' comedians learning their trade.

Also it is understandable that the football club can't afford to make even a small loss. The only other way is to get sponsorship for the night which would be helpful.

I'll be discussing this with SADARSE in the next week to see if we can move forward.

Comedy Club is a good idea. Maybe with a meal deal and start around 7pm after matchdays? Keep fans from drifting away and spending money in the bar, but would need to be reasonably priced. Think the Borough charge £7 per head with an option for a meal deal too.

A good suggestion, although it should be pointed out that it would be in competition with the very successful Borough Comedy Night, which runs 4 times a month and attracts occasional big names but the people who run it are well connected and get the best circuit comedians from Manchester and Liverpool regularly appearing.

The Grand and the Dukes have also become successful comedy venues attracting all but the stadium comics.

A comedy night was started by the Platform a few years back, which then moved to one of the hotels on the prom, I forget which, but folded within 6 months.

It could be successful, it could be a disaster. It needs someone that knows comedy to be heavily involved if it's to be the former. When the Platform still hosted comedy, I went to some woefully attended gigs by some quite well established comedians, so it's debatable if MOrecambe is interested in comedians who may be funny, but that they've never heard of.

I think Jason Manford's company run comedy nights, one which happens at one of the nearby caravan sites to the ground - it might be worth contacting them to see if they are interested in holding at the club, but they may already have a contract with the caravan site.

Cheers. I welcome your input into this subject.

Like any new venture at our club it would need supporting to make it a financial success.

Would a Sportsman's dinner theme not be a better idea? Get a few ex footy players to come and tell some stories and the club put a bit of grub on. I think the bloke who has the Caravan park on Westgate used to do things like that for the Bratfud fans when they came here.
