Jim Bentleys Players over the last 5 and a half seasons

Jim Bentleys Players over the last 5 and a half seasons

So given all the nonsense I've seen spouting (primarily on Facebook) I just thought I'd do a bit of research into players Jims brought in, ones he's improved, fees generated and any that he's got wrong for my own interest.

Barry Roche - McIlroy signing. On his way out but lets be honest, we've had loan keepers that looked better, but he's experienced and local.
Danijel Nizic - can't say
Liam Wakefield - Looks OK
Aaron McGowan - Given him his chance and is a much better player than when he started. Time will tell if he's good enough long term, he's plateauing at the moment, and I'd go as far to say that he might need to trim down, seems to be too stocky and effects his pace
Ryan Edwards - Improves every year.
Dean Winnard - Great signing, when he can actually get on the park. Will improve Edwards
Lee Molyneux - When signed was a gamble worth taking, it's simply not worked and if we had any other option he'd be long gone.
Luke Conlan - haven't seen enough
Alex Whitmore - loanee looks handy
James Jennings - dunno what to make of him tbh, sometimes he looks amazing, then he'll look that bad I dream of bringing Robbie Threlfall back.
Chris Doyle - part time with Southport
Cole Stockton - Was ok at tranmere, didn't look great when he came here on loan, goes from strength to strength with every game. If money appears, and we have an option on the loan deal, we should pay a small fee for him, he is a real gem
Michael Rose - great signing, best midfielder we've had since Drummond had legs.
Steven Yawson - no idea
Alex Kenyon - solid conference player who happens to be in a league side. Last season was a good leader. Certainly not a failure, though not a massive success story either.
Peter Murphy - great signing, hasn't looked anything like since his knee went last year when in all honesty looked all that.
Kevin Ellison - First signing, and now has legendary status. Fully expect to see him back at Altrincham or Chester next year. His legs have gone.
Aaron Wildig - Success
Andy Fleming - brought in by McIlroy. Has been solid if unremarkable?
Jack Dunn - Been and gone, started well but given his hissy fit outside the globe would suggest the lad has an attitude problem. Once knuckles down my well have a good career in lower leagues.
Ben Hedley - Kid
Paul Mullin - Dunno what to make of him. I really like him but he's never really been fancied by the management. The only time I've really disagreed with them. I'd have him on instead of Kev every week.
Tom Barkhuizen - Came released from Blackpool, didn't look great and then became one of the best players in the league sold for a 6 figure sum.
Rhys Turner - Looked great last night. Jim seems to fancy him but I reckon it's a 12/18 month turnround job.
Ntumba Massanka - we don't know, but looked underwhelming when I've seen him.
Luke Jordan - Kid.
Charlie Bailey - has no club after release
Shaun Beeley - came, was ace, got hurt, got fat, got released, went to Barrow where he's always unfit.
Nathan Bondswell - At Kendal
Jamie Devitt - At carlisle, we tried to keep him as everyone knows, turned him from bit part player to one of the best players in the division
Adam Dugdale - Played 7 games for Eastleigh this season. Should tell you most you need to know.
Anton Forrester - can't really say
Alan Goodall - solid performer, got what we could out of his last days as a full time pro
Shaun Miller - saved his career
Andy Parrish - Gave every opportunity but ultimately wasn't good enough. Hasn't signed for anyone since.
Lawrence Wilson - Signed as a gamble, didn't work.
Padriag Amond - the only one that he's got wrong, though at the time he was the odd man out and not many thought it was a terrible decision.
Andreas Arestidou - Never played, can't say
Stuart Drummond - only thing we could say is that we persisted a season too long, but given budget constraints etc etc.
Mark Hughes - not a failure by any means.
Tom McCready - played 13 times for exeter and no appearances this season.
Jack Redshaw - signed for nothing, sold for 250k. What more do you want.
Jack Sampson - looked good, then ultimately wasn't good enough - now at Macclesfield Town.
Ryan Williams - see other thread. Now in Canada? Made one appearance for Brentford and 7 for ICT in Scotland, probably a similar level. Who can blame him for going to Brentford?
Andy Wright - last seen at Southport
Tony Diagne - yeah Jim, not your finest hour was Tony Disaster.
Marcus Marshall - steady bumping down the divisions, now at Boston
Chris McCready - hasn't played since leaving
Joe McGee - didn't he get badly injured and never seen again?
Jordan Mustoe - now at some Belgian second division outfit
Joe Mwasile - Now at Nantwich town. If I didn't play cricket in the county leagues, and work with someone from there, I'd have no idea about the place.
Robbie Threlfall - Ugh, now playing for Marine. Another Jim got wrong.
Lewis Alessandra - tried to keep him.
Richard Brodie - well worth the gamble, didn't work.
Nick Fenton - went non league and then retired
Will Haining - only he will know why he didn't take the reduced offer at the time. Now at Ashton United
Chris Holroyd - I don't even remember him.
Gary McDonald - wanted to keep him but couldn't afford it.
Dan Parkinson - vanished without trace from Barrow. Many do in all fairness
Izak Reid - last seen at AFC Telford.
Kieran Charnock - Think he was a McIlroy signing but could be wrong.
Niall Cowperthwaite - believe he's working in a hotel?
Craig Curran - don't remember him.
Garry Hunter - would probably still be here if he'd have signed the deal offered at the time.
Phil Jevons - retired
Jason Price - brilliantly now plays for Almondbury Woolpack aged 39!

So he's had no real howlers, brought in two big transfer fees and in the main has either improved what he's had or got the last out of the oldies brought in. The only one that could be said to have got away is Padraig Amond. The more you look into what he's done here, the more the lad deserves a sainthood.

You got Bondswell and Bailly the wrong way round but good research on Wikipedia otherwise 8-). Think you missed a few like Jordan Burrow?

I think he does a good job off finding players in the summer to make a squad that start of flying but I'm in two minds if he then actually improves them

For me if he hadn't there'd be 4/5 let go playing higher up the pyramid. There isn't. In fact quite the opposite. The ones at this level left for more money, not because we didn't want them.

can't believe Parrish hasn't found a club yet? :o

I'd have home back for his experience in relegation battles.

might have to start playing 3 centre backs, or one of them doing an holding job in midfield, in order to stop leaking in goals.

Full-time coaching role at Manchester United. No need to play.
