2nd half of the season fixtures

2nd half of the season fixtures

Postby halftimeresults » Tue Dec 27, 2016 11:03 am

We play the top 5 away
Now when you see the premier these days. The smaller clubs seem to play weakend teams at the big teams and just write them off. The sort of pick and choose the games they believe they can win.
With our small squad do you believe we should go with this attitude?
I'm not saying don't try to win the games but just keep the squad fresh

We will win at least 2 of those 5 games.

Playing against better teams normally improves our performance, so I'd definitely say no to this idea. How many times do we get points against promotion chasing teams and lose to relegation teams?

That seems to be the way it goes at big stadiums - 12,000 at Plymouth yesterday!

We've also been playing better since the victory over Plymouth and, after yesterday's gritty win, makes me feel more optimistic about the coming months.

I was thinking along the same lines for Friday against Hartlepool and the following Monday at home against Crewe. Two games close together. I'd risk sacrificing the Hartlepool match by fielding a slightly weaker team if it meant we were more likely to field our top performers to increase chances of a win on Monday, at home, in front of a larger crowd who we need to keep and encourage to return more often.

If we can only put 6 on the bench on Boxing Day, how on earth can we actually field a weaker team?

IMO No, When you have a small squad they get used to the runs being made etc. And an understanding. They are mainly fit YOUNG men. Playing 3 game's in a week should be ok. Also the prem teams have 25-30 to pick from we have 18 at most? So even if not playing they would be on the bench. So not properly resting.

Can't see how we can rest players with such a small squad. The prospects of it getting smaller looming in January too! W e can't afford to just write off any games, we need all the points we can get at the moment
Don't worry be happy!

I would put Rose, Ellison and Murphy on the bench for the Hartlepool game ( Mullin, Wilding and Kenyon)
And back to the same team against Crewe

Absolutely , go and get the win wherever you can as i dont think Jim can pick and choose too much.
I think with our situation at the moment its a job finding 11 players with the injuries and suspensions and possibly loan players having to return .

I think Kenyon will still be suspended, won't he?

If it was a red for violent conduct then yes he will be suspended.
