Just seen that Blackburn have admitted to spending 80% of their income on wages.
What does the premier league have different rules for their pre-madonna's?
It looks like it. I guess man city's wages are far more than their income.

Only Division 2 have it as a 'rule', elsewhere it is a guideline. That's how I understand it at least.

League 2 rule, League 1 guideline, anything above can do what they want.

I for one would not waste my money. I was a season ticket holder at Fratton Park for a year or three when I was in the RN. It was great, home-grown players, great crack, the only real issue was what went on on the pitch.

Today, outside of the Premiership and arguably the Championship, the powers couldn't give a toss.

Southampton, who with a superb stadium, are in the mire, and really in fear for their future.

This is entirely understandable and sensible. Labour costs aside, a lot of the costs associated with running a club (to a very rough and ready approximation) vary a whole lot less between clubs than do the players' salaries. The 20% of Blackburn's income that is not spent on wages is surely a lot more than the 40% of our income, since their total income is so much greater. We need the 40% to cover (more or less fixed) costs that can easily be covered within the 20% retained for these things by bigger clubs.

All right, I know that this is very very rough and ready, but you should get the principle.

the wage cap was put in place to ensure that clubs do not spend their entire turnover on players wages whilst ignoring ground improvement obligations (necessary with a view to move up the leagues).

It is argued that the top tier clubs no longer have to spend money on upgrading facilities therefore can spend more on players.

.... with that in mind it seems that your particular embargo was 'unfair' as money is already allocated for ground improvement. However they can't have rules for one and different for another

Talking to a season ticket friend of mine in Pompey at lunchtime he tells me that Pompey have reduced their 'early-birds' season tickets for 09/10 by £25.
For the clued-up that includes a 2.5% VAT reduction of £15.
Next season will be interesting.
