Let's not get carried away

I agree with many fans that in the last couple of games we have shown a vast improvement. The team has a better shape and neat passing moves are opening up opposition defences. Players seem to be developing an understanding with each other. We look at least like a mid-table side in our play. The one blot on all this is our scoring record. One goal in the first five league games is poor and is reflected in our lowly league position. Before we get carried away with the improvement in the team we need to start scoring goals that reflect our improvement. At the end of the season the promising performance against Oldham will count for nothing, it will be shown as a defeat and no points. I believe we have to forget players who are regularly failing to score despite being given lots of opportunities and look to new blood. There seems to be a hesitancy in the management team to give the two young Manchester lads a decent amount of game time. A few minutes at the end of a game is not enough. Oswell needs to be given an extended run in the side and reassured he will be getting an opportunity to show what he is capable of. AJ has been a great addition to the squad but I feel another striker would enhance the squad further. We need to try to reflect the improvement in our play in the number of points we win. At the moment we played well against Oldham but have nothing to show for it.

We really need to get a striker in on loan before the window closes later this week.

Someone may have to go out to make room for a loan signing.

We already have Jagne on the bench, his 5 minute cameo against Fleetwood was a breath of fresh air, I can still see his 25 yard thunderbolt now

I wish Jim would show a bit more faith in Jagne and Mendes-Gomes. Unfortunately he has only named one or the other on the bench so far and then brought them on for a couple of minutes + injury time.

Do we Eckers like.

Oswell & Smith will come good, i think Mandiville could easily make a good center forward, even Oates, got plenty of compotition for the front 2 positions.

Reckon Mendes(who came on against Oldham) looks more suited in wider positions where he can run at defenders with his Trickery and fancy footwork, basically like an Old Fashioned winger.

I don't see Vadaine among your options , where do you see him in the goal scoring scenario ?

I don't think anyone is getting carried away, but you do need to factor in that the opposition MotM for the last two games have both been goalkeepers. The team and way we were set up at Crewe, we could still be playing and still not have scored, we were utterly dreadful and thoroughly deserved the thrashing that we got. The last two games haven't been like that. With a little bit of luck or a less inspired keeper, we'd have six points from the last two games. I think we've got time and I'm happy with what I've seen lately.

So how did that work out then?

I would like to associate myself with the comments of the previous poster. ;) Honestly, for the first time in a while, I believe we have the quality to avoid a relegation dogfight, we just need a little patience for the new set up to come good.

Agreeing with my colleague who keeps reminding me that he's from Yorkshire is becoming a bit of a too frequent habit but that's the way it is at the moment. ;) My only concern is that we may not perform that well away from home and a lot will depend on how JB sets the team up and critically who he selects in the starting eleven. Not wishing to diminish what he has done over the years for us, but for me Kevin's contribution over 90 minutes is no longer what it was and therefore his influence on a game has to be as an impact sub, although having said that his influence from the subs bench to date has been minimal but away from home where he can infuriate the oppositions fans with his antics could work in our favour.

At the time of him coming on I was thinking that Kev could have tried to wind up any of the handful of players that were on yellow cards (I believe a certain Yorkshireman over my right shoulder may also have mentioned this ;) ). We might have to start playing a little 'clever' at times this season, although given our luck that would probably backfire.

Everything seems to be developing nicely, although I think AJ, Oswell and Oates are very similar in pace.
Perhaps the inclusion of one of the youngsters from the start would give a little more variation in our play and more for the opposition to worry about.

Mandeville impresses me, made some good runs, but after a couple of them gave the ball a heavy touch and lost possession. Hopefully as his confidence in the side improves he will make a real impact.

I think it is important to keep hold of Oliver at this present time. Fair enough he is not impressing , but he is our only option of that type of player and if the crowd got behind him instead of on his back, then you
never know what might happen. The oldies among us will remember Jim McCluskey taking a while to get going, but when he did.....!
