With being an exile i don't get to as many games as i would like to nowadays but when I do it's just like Groundhog day everytime i.e. Huff and puff and achieve very little with no real cutting edge. So Oldham, Halifax and Carlisle at home and Halifax and Bury away. A total of one draw and four defeats. That follows a remarkably similar pattern from the seasons before when two defeats against Accy were usually thrown into the mix as well, as must attend games for me. I know it's difficult to keep the better players when the likes of Carlisle can throw a few extra quid their way (Devitt/Miller case in point) but we desperately need something to excite us again.Something has to change otherwise it's a steady decline back to non-league. Maybe that could be the answer, at least we might see a little more winning football which at the end of the day is what we all want..........entertainment.

Anyway I will keep the faith and hope and pray that better times are round the corner, that's about all we can do.

Posh wrote:Weird how people see games. Yes Mendes Gomes looks raw and naive but I thought he played very well, passed the ball neatly and tried things.

The problem was against two slow centre backs and a keeper who could barely hold the ball we insisted on lumping it up to Kev and Vadaine both who either failed to head it or, when they did, sent it nowhere. Both of them were pedestrian and did very little.

What we needed was tempo, pace and inventiveness, yet again though we relied on players who lack that and we just idle our way through the half. Oates should have played wide or deeper as he loves running with the ball yet he gets taken off and Kev, who was poor at Tranmere stays on.

The game cried out for playing on the deck and disappointed again at Jim’s team selection, which just delivered a fairly flat performance when we needed to give a big crowd a lift.

Agree with all of that. I thought Gomes did some really good stuff considering his age and not playing much. Kev and Oliver were poor again. Same old story of poor game management and poor substitutions.

Re Carlos...

Gomes struggled to effect the game in the early stages but grew into it. He struggles with the dirty and mundane side of things (tracking back, marking) and he’s very raw, but he’s definitely got something about him and he gives you a feeling that something could happen when he gets onto the ball - more than can be said for most of our other players.

He’s only started in a couple of professional games of football ever - I’m happy for him to get more game time, let’s see how he develops.

I don't think the management are playing our best team and they seem determined to keep playing people who consistently let us down. Struggling to score goals we once more ignore the claims of Oswell in much the same way we ignored Leif Davies who has already made a championship appearance for Leeds United. We could have played another ninety minutes against Carlisle and still not scored. Things have to change if safety is to be achieved.

Nope, nowt to do with me.

I feel sorry for Oliver. MotM a couple of weeks ago. In my opinion, Oswell being up alongside him, I felt caused the defence more problems, and he had someone closer to him. Today, again, he was isolated. Even when he won a header, there wasn't anyone nearby him.

So how did that work out then?

I know that things are different from his non league days but the lad scored a lot of goals and knows how to get in the right positions. Come on Jim. I seem to remember that it took Lim a while to have confidence in Callum last season but once he got a few starts he started scoring goals.

Just going back to Oswell for a minute.....either Jim doesn't think he's good enough or he believes that Ellison and Oliver are better.....in either case we haven't got anyone who can score goals consistently.

Oliver has no goal threat! We are too slow going forward, 10 passes sideways 1 forward and we lose the ball. Mendez had a go in the second half running at their defence, but ultimately the other players just watched him. Mande should've been brought on in the 20 minute spell we had after half time but sadly he was on too late. We set up not to lose, but plan A went out of the window when Devitt was left unmarked for a free shot at goal! We are dependent on two teams being worse than us for the second season running. Different year same situation :(

Jim appears to have blind spots when he looks at Morecambe players. I know Kevin can score the occasional goal but at this stage of his career he doesn’t make much of a contribution in other areas. He probably does well in all the fitness etc. tests but this does not translate into an effective match performance. No one can say that Vadaine isn’t trying but he has been dealt a poor hand of cards. Alongside Oswell he looked good but then the partnership was broken up. There is a pattern developing in that we look quite neat in midfield, we have a few shots which don’t go in and we end up losing. Unless this changes soon we are going to sink further into the mire.

Jim "fix-focuses" on a single player in the first half of any game. Sitting in C, you get used to hearing "oates", "oates", "oates" from him, a couple of seasons ago it was "moly" "moly" "moly", last season it was "flemmo" "flemmo" "flemmo". It that micro-management must send them insane. And he completely ignores everyone else on the pitch. Second half, (usually after we've conceded), he just stands or sits there arms crossed, clearly sulking, barely ever directing anything on the pitch. When we need someone to motivate the players, he does nothing, even worse when we don't have a decent captain on the pitch (something we've missed for several years now!).

He had 2 of his most constructive players on the bench yesterday , A-Jay and Mandeville. I should think Sheridan must have been delighted when he saw the team sheet.
Gomes looks like he could really tie down a place in the team and IMHO it should be Kev's with him being an impact sub.

W/W is right in saying Oliver is a no goal threat,if he's chasing the ball down against the goalie he stops when he's nearly there, then starts running again when the goalies got the ball  .Yesterday when everyone thought he was going to head the ball hey ho he fluffs it with his feet.Yes he can jump high to get his head on the ball.Oswell must be injured because he should have replaced Oliver at halftime.

I was up in the Lake District yesterday in my car for the first half of the match and listened to the game on BBC Radio Cumbria.

Their commentators had a lot to say about Oliver, mainly that they thought he was useless on the floor and with his feet, but in the air - a real threat.

They mentioned that a fair few times too.

Is it only fans who see when the keeper is shaky and crying out just to be tested, even pot shots from outside the area?!
