Watching the recording of the 1st goal on Quest in slow motion there were 6 Grimsby players unmarked in the penalty area, one well ahead of the defenders and obviously a mile offside. How many others were offside is open to debate but exhibits that standards of officials have not improved. However it is an early lesson of playing to the whistle.

You have to wonder the logic of starting Kenyon who seemed to be passing to some player in the PMG stand at times !
I have a conspiracy theory that Jim played it like that to frighten the owners into putting some more money up for either a decent striker or decent midfielder or both.
We certainly saw how much we are going to miss Andy Fleming yesterday.

I don't think Jim really knows what to do with Wildig. Last season when fit, he played as the runner from deep. For me, he is the only player capable of doing that. The problem Jim has though is Aaron is the only midfielder we have who can actually pass a ball so yesterday he sat deep and was ineffective. Tutte is blowing out of his arse within 15 seconds of coming on and despite the way he charges about, offers very little. Alex just isn't good enough. Poor in the tackle, poor positional sense and a terrible passer. The midfield has needed sorting for 4 or 5 seasons.

Never seen the lad play but by all accounts, he can play there. Jordan could also do that role. Win the ball back and play it through the lines to a more creative player. Brewitt has a pedigree so he must be technically sound. Give him a go and like you say, release Wildig. In doing that you can do away with the pointless number 10 role and play Miller and Stockton up top. Yesterday looked like we reverted to type and wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now.

Long distance means I can't get to games, but I have been interested reading through the comments on here, and trying to pick out the legible ones on Facebook!

From what I can tell, it sounds like we were trying to play nice football through the thirds against a limited but solid/organised Grimsby side. Alessandra as the No10 linking with Miller up top and O'Sullivan on the wing, that would seem to make sense.

As much as I would rather see us playing nice football than hoofball, perhaps having Stockton up top and as a direct option would help facilitate that nice football? It seemed to do so against Accrington. Him up top gave us an outlet we could hit quickly and directly. This meant Stanley were more stretched, so Alessandra had a bit more space to work his stuff - which he did excellently at times. Stockton is great at pulling defenders about and importantly, retaining the ball when he has it. This creates a bit more space for us to play our nice football.

Miller is great but we don't have that option with him. He's generally more effective playing through the thirds etc so he can link up nicely with the ball at his feet. It was successful in his previous spell when we had Devitt - arguably the best playmaker in League Two since signing with us, who now has a deserved and probably overdue move to League One.

Perhaps Miller and Stockton up front with Alessandra and O'Sullivan drifting from the wings is the best way forward? Nice football and a quick/direct approach available through Stockton. Also, he'll help us make the most of Buxton's crossing.

Was really impressed with Brewitt when I saw him in the centre of the park vs Stanley. Good anticipation and looked tidy with his feet. Surely he'd be a better option than Kenyon? Like some have already said, could free up Wildig, who looks far better when he's with someone next to him who can actually pass a ball.

I think we also have to give credit to Grimsby. They did a job on us. They were very hard working and didn't give us any space at all. I've not seen it again yet, but I think their number 12 (the linesman!) should claim the assist! Without him (or a dreadful mistake by our defence) it had 0-0 written all over it as they created hardly anything more than we did.
