O/T Smart Meters

O/T Smart Meters

Postby redrobo » Fri Oct 25, 2019 11:25 am

We recently changed energy suppliers to EDF from Sainsbury Energy and agreed to have a System 2 Smart Meter installed . System 1 Smart Meters have their problems hence why new installations are using System 2.

Unfortunately when the installer came to fit the mater it became clear that due to our location that the required radio signal to provide the info direct to the energy company was unobtainable. Despite 3 hours trying to get a signal he gave up and said that we would have to wait until the Hew Year when aerials are due to be made available to the Northern Regions which are intended to make available the necessary signal .

It transpires that the South already have the required aerials for areas with similar problems such as mine but not to us poor folk in the back waters of the North.

Just wondering if any other SVers are having similar problems of not being able to get the necessary radio signal and what if anything their energy suppler is doing about it :?: :?: :?:

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole at the moment. Despite claims they fit V2, they're still fitting V1.

They also claim the V1 can be upgraded to V2 so they don't become dumb meters but that's a while off yet.

You've had a lucky escape, unless your tariff is a special discounted smart tariff in which case look around. I have a referral code for Octopus which gets us both £50 credit if you want ;) Only energy company approved by Which?

Hmm - we’ve just renewed our online saver tariff with them cos it was pretty competitive when I did my annual trawl for energy quotes. The renewal rates were conditional on us agreeing to a smart meter being fitted.....that was a couple of months ago, but so far they ain’t shown up to fit one!
Incidentally we already have a smart meter fitted by Gritish Bass a few years ago, but this isn’t compatible with EDF!
