Referees

Referees

Postby glagys » Sat Feb 08, 2020 2:10 pm

Well I just thought it was the lower leagues where the standard of refereeing had dropped but it seems rife in all divisions
Just watched the Wigan game and some of the decisions are baffling
Oh well at least we ain't got VAR
Now let's not start on that one :D

We had a gem today at the Globe. Their centre back had his arm round Stockton all match and got away with it

Yep disgraceful referee, I half expected to see Stockton penalised for backing in, seems to be again if you scream when tackled you get the free kick,we don't do that but I'm glad, but the refs need to know who the conman teams are and act on it, but they don't
it almost seems like they decide (the referees )which teams they want to go down and make sure they get the right results

I sometimes think this, especially when you can now bet on bookings, corners and goals per match etc etc

Official's are not the best paid and certainly not well known on the Street like Footballers who’ve been caught betting on games in the past and plus you can always get other people to put bets on for you.

The thing is, it's not just the ref's. Both Liner's on the wall side today were terrible, both missing handball near the touchline, and not knowing which way to give a decision.

The match officials yesterday were typical of the officials in English football that currently we are producing- fit and mobile but clueless about what constitutes a foul and what is handball. They are also very naive- the first 4 or 5 challenges on CMG were fouls deliberately to stop him playing. Other than free kicks what did the referee do- absolutely nothing. It's a crisis that urgently needs resolving. Part of the problem is many of the current crop of officials have never played the game and don't have any feel for the game. At the moment many of the promotion and relegation issues are being determined by the hopelessness of the match officials. It's interesting that probably the best official we have had at home this season was the Australian referee officiating his first league game in England. That is a real indictment of the quality of home grown referees.

Not getting any easier on Tuesday Michael Salisbury takes charge,
last time he visited us he sent off Alex and we lost 2-1,
seem to remember he was another ref that gave decisions to the loudest screamer in tackles

It's the blatant time wasting that annoys me the most. The knocking the ball away or the feigning of an injury. Everyone in the ground knows what is going on except the Ref and Linesman. The latest one is the making a mess of a substitution. It has happened at the last two home games now.

Oh no not Michael Salisbury on Tuesday! He is simply an awful referee. In his last game at the Globe, was it aginst Cheltenham a couple of seasons ago? Alex was being trampled on and when he got up he asserted himself and was sent off by Michael Salisbury. The offender trampling on him escaped scot free! I hope I have to eat my words after his performane on Tuesday but I seriously doubt it!

Michael hasn’t officiated a Shrimps game since, I believe that Davis Allison is here on Tuesday, hopefully to educate the ref.
Perhaps he has been allowed back now Jim and Ken aren’t here to lynch :D him :D

I'm sure Freez will put me right if I'm wrong but do the assessors have lunch with the officials prior to a game and discuss the game in general not least how the officials can allow a game to flow rather than constant stoppages for petty offences. :?:

If so then maybe Mr Allison can remind the officials that it is the players who take centre stage NOT themselves as often appears to be the case. ;)

I think Dave Allison has retired from his post as head assessor.

I remember playing cricket against him in the S Lakes league , he played for Morecambe 3rd or 4ths. A really decent guy and he was an excellent referee in his day.

Unsure, maybe has retired, but is attending on Tuesday in an official ref society capacity, so I’m told! :D
