Agree with pretty much everything you say Stuart. After a slow start I thought we played OK first half going forward. The one problem identified was Alfie's passing was shocking and had to be replaced. We put far too much emphasis on him as playmaker, but when Aaron came on the whole midfield pushed up as a unit and Toums and McLoughlin got involved much more upfield, which really benefited us.
Jonah Ayunga off the ball was much more energetic and committed, and agree he was a key part of the press in both halves. However, he still needs to improve on the ball. His first and second touches yesterday were heavy and saw him lose the ball a lot. He also still tries to beat players when there's often an easy option. The whole team needs to be taught the benefit of a 1-2.
24 shots to their 8 yesterday and 8 to 4 on target, and the vast majority of the possession. We were the better team and a decent centre half, goalkeeper, holding midfielder and winger, and we'll push on from this. There's a lot of struggling teams at the moment - Donny, Crewe, Gillingham, Lincoln, Bolton, Cheltenham and Cambridge - all of which have picked up 6 points or less in their last six matches. It is in our hands and if we bolster the team effectively, stick with a mix of experience and those younger players who put in a shift (rather than take gambles on players who don't) then we've got a very good chance of staying up.
