The funny thing is, when he got sent to us, when due to ref the Blackpool game, who were at least one, possibly two leagues above us at the time, he had a really good game. I've just been on the Wycombe forum and one of their fans wrote of Gregg's yellow card, 'high foot or low head? Yellow seems harsh.'. That was the first foul from Gregg, while their lad was on about five!

It's always interesting looking at opposition forums after a game. Fair play to Wycombe fans, very little 'we should be beating teams like Morecambe' posts and a few questioning why we're in a relegation battle when we've been so good against them in both games... ...although part of that answer is, like in the game at their place, we can play well but lose too often.

I liked this post in particular...

Morecambe are a decent side, little bit of stardust with Cole Stockton and the rangy number 17 - Ayunga had an excellent game today. They’ve turned over Lincoln, Wednesday, Us and drawn with Charlton among others at home.

They remind me of us a little a few seasons back, punching above their weight and if you’re not at the races they are decent enough to punish you. Credit where it’s due and all that.

I can see that, and I reckon they are a good club for us to emulate. Keep gently & steadily improving & growing.

Great performance, great spectacle. Yes, the referee was weak and his weakness encouraged them to foul more and more.

Interesting quote from a Wycombe fan on BBC site -
Fair enough result today. Got to take it on the chin. Thought Morecambe were the better side so no complaints. Referee didn’t let us get away with the normal amount of fouls we throw in and I think it cost us. May need to start playing a bit more football if we’re to secure automatic promotion.

You wouldn't have expected Cole to be one-on-one with the keeper if he hadn't been fouled?

If Cole had the ball at his feet then yeah I would have said it was a goal scoring opportunity but he never had it anywhere near under control and there was a covering defender. That is how i saw it from 10 yards away anyways

What a fantastic performance from the whole team today. But of course, special mention to Ayunga - what a performance! Not really a lot to pick apart from that, just brilliant!

We've looked a good League One side these past couple of games. Keep it up and the results will keep coming.

I agree with your assessment Littleshrimp and. I also agree Ayunga had a really good game and Wycombe found him hard to deal with.

Fantastic today! The whole team are gelling at just the right time for a climb away from relegation......... hopefully. Man of the match could have gone to several today with no complaints. Bedeau is a rock and is going to be some player! O'Connor is a man inspired. Cole is a monster!! Ayunga coming good when we need him

Special mention to the fans too. To go behind at the start of each half was a kick in the proverbials, but we all stuck together kept behind the team and came good. Proper fans.

Definitely no covering defender. He was through if not fouled.

Definitely no covering defender in sight. That's how I saw it from 4,500 miles away! 8-)

Keith, I would suggest that your picture shows clearly why it would have been very difficult for the referee to decide that was a clear cut goal scoring opportunity that the defender was denying. Whilst the offials were poor for both sides yesterday, I think he got this one correct

A bit hard to tell from a screenshot when you can't see half the pitch Keith. The worst attempt of proving a point I have ever seen. You can even see a shadow of another player. Not like you to to fudge things in a discussion Keith. 100% not a goal scoring opportunity.

I have replayed this several times and there is no covering defender. The shadows on the pitch are those of Cole and the defender. The goalkeeper’s shadow follows the same line.
Had the ball been allowed to drop without the the defender fouling Cole, I think there would have been a scoring opportunity.
Ben Tref obviously thought differently.
It’s a good job that Freez and Glenn weren’t commenting, they would have blown our eardrums!!

Fantastic result, shame I had to miss due to work, to come from behind twice against arguably the worst side to play against in the league shows great character.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise your definition of "a covering defender" is to include those who were somewhere else on the pitch...

In my opinion, a covering defender is another one, between the foul and the goal who was, like 'covering' that part of the attack. Even their commentary team said, 'he had to make that tackle or Stockton was in'.

Worst attempt to 'keep digging', and you have a good record of doing so!

I'm just glad the game didn't hinge on this decision.

If you watch it again, Cole is heading to the right, the defender to the left. Cole gets there first and nods the ball to the right. If the defender doesn't foul Cole, he's heading in the wrong direction, and Cole is one-on-one with the keeper. I've watched it a few times and I don't see how the ref thought the defender had even made a genuine attempt to play the ball, he didn't get anywhere near it! It was a 'yellow card' anywhere on the pitch, but in my opinion, had he not made it, it was a clear opportunity for Cole.

If it was at the other end of the pitch, our defender would have gone, and I wouldn't be complaining.

All getting a bit testy - we won yesterday for gods sake!

Just watched it back now. At the game (D block), I though Stockton was trying to nod it over to Ayunga and saw Jacobson's challenge as a late one but not last man.

Seeing the replay back, I don't think Stockton's trying to nod it to Ayunga and he has just beaten Jacobson. Can 100% see the case for a red looking back, although I do also think it's fair enough to see Stewart as having a good chance of covering back and catching up to Stockton.

One that seems to have been missed was the two footed challenge from Jacobson on Cooney by the touchline - 70 something minutes. Shocking - should have been a straight red. Surprised more people weren't appealing but I guess it being by the touchline and with a few players in the way meant many people didn't see it properly. Also Cooney didn't make much of it. I thought it was a stonewall red when I saw it, and even more so watching it back!
