O/T Dehydration and the Tour de France

Just watching my other love the Tour de France and the riders need to keep hydrated in the exceptional temperatures that they are experiencing to date.

It's well known in the sport that in such temperatures that each rider has to consume nothing less than 12 litres of water /fluid in a typical stage of circa 200 kilometres just to keep competitive.

In the late 60's when I used to race :o (alongside Ian Singleton ;) ) we used to consume maybe 3 litres if we had road side helpers passing water bottles to us but on too many occasions we had to rely on only a couple of plastic bottles to see us through a 60 to 70 mile race.

I'm sure that our club nutritionist will be well prepared for the exceptional temperatures that our lads will face not only in training but also during match time in the coming week and beyond.

In temperatures like we are now experiencing water is far better than beer which has a negative impact compensating for dehydration.

Stay safe everybody..... :) :) :)
