iFollow QUERY

iFollow QUERY

Postby Alan » Tue Nov 14, 2023 6:01 pm

Geeky answer needed to the following query.

Wanting to watch tonights match I logged on to iFollow to buy a pass. As usual it uses 'existing payment
method' showing several purchases for previous games. I'm just about to press the buy button when I notice the last four numbers of my card are not as I expect.

My existing card runs out at the end of the month and a new card arrived on Sat morning and has never been used. Trying to buy the pass with the old card resulted in something like ' maximum usage reached'
message and an inability to go any further.
Pressing 'existing payment method' resulted in instant success.

My queries are....how does the company have my new card details virtually before I do (most companies ask you to input your new card details)...and why did it refuse to accept a still valid card backed by more than adequate funds ?

Any explanations gratefully received.

I'd assume it is (or something similar to) APAN/EPAN: https://developer.visa.com/use-cases/identify-merchants-receiving-automatic-card-updates

I'm unsure about the whole your card not being expired bit yet. I'd be curious as to what would happen if you tried to use that card in a physical store.

Edit: Thinking about this more. In the US your card number doesn't change when you get a new card due to an expiration. No idea if that's true where you are or not, but if so I'd be curious if there's some concern about fraud over your current card so they've sent you a completely new one?
