O/T £4 million for injured player

The Courts have awarded a figure expected to be over £4 million to an ex Man U player who suffered a career ending injury in a reserve games v Middlesboro 4 years ago. The judge awarded the figure calculating that the player had a career ahead of him that would have taken him to the top of the sport.

Good luck to the lad but it seems strange that the career of a sportsman is worth more than that of others who suffer injury that ends their working lives.....or am I wrong?

Sounds like the courts have used the evidence available to predict the lads potential earnings and based the decision on that. As long as that was applied fairly, it's no different to anyone else in a similar situation. The main difference being the rest of us are unlikely to earn 000's a week.

In fact if he was heading for the top of his profession then £4m is quite low.

I thought court awards were tax free, something else they will have taken into consideration.
