Jimbo in!

Jim and Ken have extended their contracts until 2020.

Does this show a lack of ambition or is it a case of if it's not broke don't fix it?

the latter if I'm to be honest, the club is for sale and is worth more if we remain a FL club, and there won't be any difference in price even if we were to make L1 hypothetically speaking.

so don't rock the boat..

my only concern is if results don't pick up before the winter months we could start seeing our "hardcore down to 800 + Away Fans"

so rough estimate from when we first moved to the Globe "hardcore 1800+ Away Fans" thats a Massive 1000 Morecambe fans vanished into thin air.

Not sure, but it's 2 years... from next Summer when their current contracts expire. Good news for me because whoever is in charge would have their hands tied in the current climate and you may as well stick with what you know, especially as the club means so much to them.

Well I find the timing somewhat strange, contract extensions are usually handed out when things are going well not when your near the bottom of the league. The thing that concern's me is if we are in a similar position or worse as we get towards the end of the season then we wont be able to do anything about it as I cant see us being able to afford to pay off Jim and get someone else in.

Personally I think we have a squad that is good enough to finish midtable but that doesn't mean we will so basically its a case of sink or swim with Jim in charge and before anyone has a go this is not an anti Jimbo post its just that I see it as a bit of a gamble the option of being able to do something if relegation becomes a real possibility probably no longer exists.

Personally, I think that's a simple solution, albeit a strange timing.
I would have at least waited a month to see how we get on.
Anyone that thinks we are in a position to afford to change is dilluded.

On the other hand some fans will see this as a backward/negative step, so we will probably see our 1000 home fans dwindle to 950

The flip side is that if any club comes in for Jim they will have to pay compensation to get him. He is still highly regarded by many pundits and if he were to do a decent job then I'm sure his name would get banded about again.

It was said at the meeting that there were a couple of clubs interested in taking Jim during last season and with Micky Meltdown not looking too safe at Tranmere they probably thought a deal going till 2020 would deter clubs like them.

We finished 11th in 2014/15, 21st in 2015/16, Just 6 points above the relegation placed last season (albeit 18th), and we're currently sitting in 21st place after losing to the worst side I have ever seen at the Globe, since it opened. We are going downhill... If you think the situation is not "broken," then, I am sorry but, you are deluded. We have the best and biggest squad we have had in a long while and we are doing worse with it! And then Jim & Ken get a 2 yr contract extension!! It's madness. I'm sorry, but if we truly want to grow as a club, there needs to be managerial changes at the end of this season, if we're not relegated by then... I am not one to be excessively negative but I think this news is very strange and may hold the club back until July 2020...

Currently, I doubt anyone would actually want Jim with the club sitting in 21st place with a very large & talented squad...

Rapid Shrimp, I agree Crawley weren't great.
However, we did have ten men for nearly an hour, were the better side for most of it and missed chances, as I saw it.
in the cold light of day, last Saturday will hopefully be the low point and we will kick on, as you say the squad is decent, I still don't think we have found the best balance yet, McGurk and Oliver not had a game together yet, and both have been decent enough.
Someone needs to step up to the plate and take the chances we create now Kev is supended.

A settled side where the players can remember what their tasks are and know where their partner will be, rather than all this constant chopping and changing.
I know injuries and suspensions play their part but it really is like bingo. I have counted 4 times now that our Captain has been subbed.

My only issue with this is the timing. All too often this season the word 'soft' has been used to describe our performances yet despite winning 1 game in the last 14 the manager is rewarded with an extension. What message does that send to the players? There should be a mentality of "we're fighting for our futures here" (quite literally) at the moment but it's "OK, we're little old Morecambe just doing what we can". Why not delay the signing/announcement until we hit a good run of form?

I completely appreciate what Jimbo did for the club last season and any other manager would have walked away and got another job elsewhere. If an extension was being considered, it should have been dealt with during the summer, but right now, during a terrible run with crucial games coming up, it has left me scratching my head. Lose our next 2 games and we could be in the relegation zone.

Yep. Agree with this. The contract extension should have come in the summer.......bit it didn't and should probably have been put off at present.

Also agree with the next 2 games being VERY important. People are saying that, on paper, this is the best Team for years but that wasn't what I saw at Exeter. I've also lost count in the number of times you hear fans of other teams saying 'we are too good to go down'....and then they go down!

I've been a critic of Jim and his lack of entertaining football BUT this move by the Board to ensure his future until the end of season 2019 /2020 (?) is a very calcualted one in my opinion by the Board knowing full well that sooner or later some bigger club will come knocking on our door and offer Jim the opportunity to take over at a club with a bigger financial pot than we are ever likely to have.

It's as much about seeking a compenstaion package as well as providing Jim and Ken with some security so that hopefully our fortunes on the field of play will change.

Listening to Jimbo last night once again showed his commitment and passion towards our club and I felt he answered the questions asked both publically and privately with honesty and a self belief in his own ability to get things sorted.

I continue to have serious issues about style of play but maybe he's right when he suggestes that we are not far away from becoming a force in League 2.

I for one seriously hope so, but I'll continue to express my frustration at the lack of entertainment siting the games v Luton and Newport as examples of what we CAN achive.....together.

Nobody will come in for Jim, who in their right mind would?

It is a negative move and basically commits us to two more years of the steady decline seen under Jims stewardship. Nobody can say there hasn't been a decline in the clubs progress, the stats do not lie. He really is unsackable now and unless there is a major change in his tactics, we are relegation bound. His hands are tied financially but how many lower league managers have bundles of cash to chuck about?

A club legend, yes but worthy of 2 more years he isn't.

What happens if we find ourselves in the relegation zone during the second half of the season and it becomes apparent our only chance of survival is to change manager. Can we afford to sack Jim and Ken (pay their contracts). If not then the decision to extend their contracts could relegate us.

We are playing the 3 worse sides in the division so far in the next few games. Let's judge in a few weeks! If we lose more than one of them we are going down imo.

Just wish that some would be more positive about the future rather than the doom and gloom of some posts.

All talk of relegation is just too much at such an earlier part of a long season.
