Good to see Dugdale go. Puts to bed a lot of the comments that he would be offered a new contract because he was Ken McKenna's mate.

Sorry to see Doyle go, but unless outside investment comes in we will have another small squad next year. We don't have time for players to fulfil potential, we need players who can come in and hit the ground running. Given the defence was so poor for the vast majority of last season, I can't really argue against tearing it up and starting again.

Without knowing what went on behind the scenes it's hard to know what to make of it - if we were upfront and said Doyle would still be a reserve and he left to play first team football elsewhere, fair enough. If we're even struggling to pay a wage that our reserves will turn down, we really are fucked next season.

I reckon Chris Doyle will be on the phone to Matt Jansen at Chorleh' as I type....

Good luck to the lad.

That would enable him to offer the key men Miller and Devitt improved contracts from the savings in wages of the released 9.

And mean that once the takeover is done he could then shop in a different place for decent defenders probably meaning Morrisons rather than Lidl !

The reason so many have been released is because Morecambe have a Conference North playing budget next season.
If the takeover happens within the next fortnight then most of them players will be signed back on

On what basis? We've only seen him in reserve games and some outings in Conf North. Jim will have seen him every day in training for a year and will be able to have seen whether he had what it takes to make the cut at League 2 level.

I'd like Fortnum & Mason but the batch last season looked like they had come from B & M Bargains

A shame that a Bailey and Doyle didn't get a better chance but as everyone else has pointed out, our budget is low and we don't have time to wait 2/3 years for them to improve if we want to stay i league2 . Beeley and Dugdale were nobrainers though

Either that or it's fallen through and we are going to have a tiny budget :(

I think if it had fallen through meaning a tiny budget then we would have released Miller and Devitt. As top earners we would struggle to afford the other 9 to make a team !

I can only imagine Fleming as taken a pay cut to save his job.

Well I'm surprised i really expected Bailey to be here next season he certainly looked promising and one for the future, Doyle i thought did ok and could improve in fact i would have kept him over Edwards who has gone backwards. Beeley became almost unrecognisable from the player who won man of the match just about every home game, could he have turned it round well we wont find out now, Dugdale had to go though anyway lets hope we can get in some decent replacements.

Dream on. No takeover is near and I'll be surprised if one happens before the end of summer. To sell the club it needs a realistic price for a business with no assets and losing a six figure sum every year.

regarding Beeley.

in recent years our fullbacks have been attack minded ones, makes you wonder if Jim is going to go for defensive minded ones from now on, after the goals we've conceded this season.

still reckon Yates is still the best full back we've had.

I agree. Reserves bottom of the league again. http://mobile.football-league.co.uk/doc ... 104879.pdf. Is there any point in paying for travel and management if we get battered every week? Unless of course the League / FA / Premiership cover the costs of our existence.

Youth team came 8th this season (league of 14), which is well above the bottom we've finished in the last four years. http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?league=66002204

Our budget should all go on better players , no reserves are neccessary as back. up because if we lose a first teamer we seem to just bring in a loan player, if we have a player back from injury we can loan him out to get match fit , as for youth system, waste of time because none of them ever make the grade , we only need a squad of 23 players because we overspend.

Is that a fact or pure speculation on your part... :?: :?: :?:

Talking to a couple of Directors last week gave a number of us a more positive outlook particularly as one is heavily involved in negotiations along with Peter McG....

It's been completely pointless giving contracts to reserve/youth players as they never get any time on the pitch, so why bother? They seem to only make up numbers on the bench when a lot of first team players are out and Jim has clearly no intention of actually playing them.

I, too, think that if the budget is cut, then the squad size needs to be reduced to bare bones. Rather than paying wages for players who are unlikely to play, save the money and spend it on loanees as and when needed to cover injuries so we can at least bring in what we need, when we need it. If that means that sometimes there aren't 6 on the bench, then so be it.

A very good performance against League One Walsall in the JPT springs to mind.

Yet Jim regularly played Joe Mwaslie who may have looked lively but never actually achieved anything.

Exactly. The point I'm trying to make is that there are plenty on here who seem to think Bailey was some hot prospect who was worthy of a first team place when in reality it's more likely he's just another Declan Watson, Will Bell, Tom Woods, James Short, Joe Culshaw, Sean Breen or one of the many players who have come through the youth system, been given a 1 year deal and then released before embarking on careers away from football or plying their trade way down the pyramid.
