In the early 80's we had David Eyres on our books...he got few opportunities and moved on.
From Wikipedia.....

David Eyres Personal information
Date of birth 26 February 1964 (age 53)
Place of birth Liverpool, England
Playing position Midfielder
Senior career*
Years Team Apps (Gls)
1989–1993 Blackpool 147 (38)
1993–1997 Burnley 171 (37)
1997–2000 Preston North End 89 (20)
2000–2006 Oldham Athletic 181 (33)

So from the age of 33 to age 42 he played 270 league games scoring 53 goals.

If Thommo can do anything like it he'll do for me.
If fit enough it's all down to mental attitude and I'm sure Garry has what it takes to do a good job.
Playing back in front of the fans who have the utmost respect for him, will only spur him
on hopefully.
It is not nostalgia, we are a Lge 2 club and ability should come before age.
Jim Bentley has faith in him to do a job and I'm sure Garry won't let him down.

Going back to Eyresy, he was playing for Oldham Athletic at the age of 42 years old.

Oldham played Leeds United in a pre-season friendly.

One of their coaches asked Iain Dowie after the game about the "young lad flying up and down the wing".

That young lad, was David Eyres. Aged 42.

Saw David Eyres make his first team debut for us under Joe Woj, great things were hoped of him. We attacked the keeper saved it the ball bouncing free to an unmarked Eyres, goal gaping... he swung his foot promptly fell over and missed the ball! Hardly saw him again until he appeared at Rhyl :D Another sighting he was playing for Blackpool away at Fulham, as he ran down the wing near the home fans my m8 shouted "Eyrsey ya morecambe reject" and he promptly lost the ball looking around! How the Fulham fans laughed :D
Don't worry be happy!
