We should have been more positive and played a team to go out and win, not draw. Yesterday with Fleming and Wylde we were far more positive and actually had a midfield capable of holding and retaining the ball. We have a decent squad this season , thanks to Jim, but due to poor team selections, tactics and substitutions we went into the last game of the season needing a point to stay in the football league. I honestly hope Jim is with us next season, we all know about his passion for the club, but he needs to take a big lesson from this season and be more positive, in other words, go out to won every game.
Have to say I completely agree with this. Jim has consistently outdone himself in player acquisition but then just let himself down on the utilisation of the players. Take the squad when we had Devitt, Miller, Barkhuizen, Mullin and Kev a couple of years younger. True we didn't have the particularly good defenders (Dugdale, Parrish) but surely that front line was worth more than finishing 21st? And this season, our most talented area has been defence which has performed excellently and while we haven't had as good attackers, surely the job of the manager is to get the best out of the players through tactics and style? We've played so many games with Rose and Kenyon in midfield, which is hardly much to go on for our forward players.
On a brighter note, good defenders are far less likely to be pinched than good attackers. With Lavelle on a new contract and people hopeful of Old staying, Jim will be able to focus more of his next budget towards some better attackers knowing that the core of his backline is secure.
