The obvious focus today was on Vadaine Oliver but I think that the decision to play him, the formation and the role of others is as important.

Vadaine put himself about and ran for the ball but his first touch bar a layoff with his chest, one quick layoff and pulling a foul was chronically poor. He simple couldn’t trap it and lay it off. So our one man attack had his back to goal most of the game, gave it away and no one was willing to run off him. He was just very poor.

But the team wasn’t helped by the formation and he also wasn’t helped by Kev Ellison who I love dearly but hasn’t the legs anymore. Apart from his bizarre miss when he dropped lower and lower with his head until he was digging a hole with his forehead there was very little. Oates, who I thought was poor at Crewe was excellent today and created some great chances.

We really can’t afford to play either of them in our next league game. Jim has to change the formation and start to give the fans belief and A few worries about Cranston too, who gets easily beaten.

Positives - Oates, Leitch-Smith, Mills (much sharper than against Crewe) and Yarney (despite the non-stop pointing ala Kieran Walmsley).

The one I couldn’t work out was Jagne. Wow did that boy want the ball! Left back, right wing he was everywhere but to how much effect? Entertaining cameo though.

Nothing to add about the game its been well covered by the comments already posted but the lack of goals is a real concern, why do all our players when they do get a chance choose to hit the ball as hard as they can and inevitably end up blasting the ball over the bar, concentrate on placement its more important, the percentage of shots that actually hit the target is very poor the opposition goal keeper seldom makes more than a couple of saves in a match if any.

Like Oliver's tap into the keeper's waiting arms from 6 yards? Just saying. Personally I like to see them having a blast from distance, they just need to get their bodies over the ball more and keep the ball down.

I did say placement like in the corner anyway using Oliver in a debate about scoring is a bit unfair
