Any chance that we can return to how it used to be. Personally I don't get what has gone wrong but something has and all we want is for things to return to how they used to be.....PLEASE

The problem is having a life away from the internet. Once the real world stops getting in the way (ie weekend) I'll get the chance to pursue the problem properly!

Being a total technophobe, I'm afraid that I had to pm Keith and he has sent me the new (temporary/alternative?) link. As far as I can see the only difference is that the ~ before iomkeith is middle of the line in the original link but at the top of the line in the new link that he sent me.

No idea what that means, but at least I can now get onto SV. Both links saved to bookmarks.

And I certainly do not blame Keith for this. His comments about trying to sort it at the weekend when he has time should actually make us realise how grateful we should be for his work on SV (when he has time!!)

DNS records are the signposts that tell the world where to find a website and they point to an IP address.
IP address is 4 numbers unique to a server.
For a URL (the address you type into the address bar), there needs to be a DNS record, specifically an A record which you will see below.
Your browser converts what you key in to an IP address based on the DNS signposts.

The way the forum is set up on the server, it actually appears as giraffe.arvixe.com/~iomkeith/shrimpsvoices so the signposts need to work for that as well.
They don't.
You will see 4 signposts below, the one with the different IP address doesn't work, that's the non-www Giraffe.
Change that and it should all work again, not that it technically ever stopped working.
That change is for Keith's hosts to make.
