So 2-0 up to go 2-2 late on and miss a penalty to take it back to 3-2.

So glad I did not go to the game today.

Pathetic.

We've started attacking again since they equalised. We should have gone for it while we were still winning. I don't think they deserved to come back. I watched it back a few times, still difficult to say, but I think he was off side.

Poor penalty.

There has to be an inquest into this, with some tough fixtures coming up sick of the constant disappointment following this club...i have no doubt things could be a lot better.

Positives to take was an amazing first half, we were superb.

Threw it away with 10 minutes to go, so I'm gutted as most of us will be. We were given a lifeline and threw it away. Two points loss, but our third penalty miss, for a team that's struggling to score its unforgivable to have 10 minutes like we did there.

Well off-side    Why are the crap decisions always against us? The goal scorer is the player at the end of the Centrica sign. Clearly the other side of the defender.

Mind you, if we could score penalties it would help.

Will lose the next game away at Lincoln meaning that victory against Cambridge at home on the 22nd is a must win game.

Such a sad day yet again for this club.

One must question the mentality of the players to capitulate like that and then miss a penalty.

Fair point, maybe one of our reporters could ask Jim this in an interview, thats a normal question to put forward, its their job to ask questions like that.

Yep, many other managers are asked that exact same question after a penalty miss. Obviously not fair to compare Jim to Pep, but it should be 100% clear who takes penalties before a match.

The only exception I could see is if we're coasting to a win and a player wants to get a hat-trick or some other achievement. In a match like today, we should have a list of penalty takers, and the top player on that list on the pitch at the time takes the penalty. No debate needed.

Thought we played well 1st half, And not to bad in the second half. Pope is always going to score against us he always does. I understand gamesmanship but pope was disgusting the way he spoke to our players especially Cranston and Halstead.

They do practice pens, the two allotted to take today were AJ and Jason. Jase had gone off.
So unfortunately it was down to AJ.
I doubt he will take another. I'd have preferred Oates, Mandy or Thommo, who took them for us the old days.

That is 2 penalties missed by AJ this season. He should never get another one. Thommo for me too when on.

Looks like another terrible decision from the officials.

That said, it was criminal how we sat back second half on the 2-0 lead and invited exactly what happened. Another poor penalty from AJ - keeper had already gone that way and he still put it straight to him. Really frustrating and shows exactly why we are in the position we are in and won't climb the table this season.

A terrible decision from the officials to alter the result of the game, but we were handed a lifeline in the form of a penalty which we didn’t take, so only ourselves to blame?

It’s a tough one to take because we largely played quite well with lots of endeavour, but it only takes a couple of moments to go against you in a game of football and you’ve dropped points.

Yet another game where we are saying “well we played quite well, we just didn’t get the points we wanted”. Sadly we will be relegated if we are saying that after every game.

Didn't go today was out with my little lad when I saw the score I said to him I will tell you what's happened there we were two up at half time and Jim told them to sit back and defend in the second half then eventually we crack in the last 7 mins, was I right?

Never mind the pen miss the question is why did we let them get back to 2v2 in the first place.

P/T Indie spot on in my opinion. I have always been a big supporter of JB, but the change of tactics every time we take the lead is totally down to him. If we had carried on in the second half as we finished the first half we probably would have won with ease.

Time to let JB move on to Everton or England?????? :o :o :o :o

Losing Cranston was a blow but i thought Oates should have replaced the ineffective Kev much earlier but the Oliver and Thommo subs added to the panic for me.

Two points lost today could prove costly at the end of the season. Needed a win today.

Fortunately all teams below except Cheltenham lost today.

Jimbos next two home games are massive games, need wins in both especially the Cambridge match on the 22nd, draws are not good enough with the three points for a win system.

Away games in December - Lincoln, Tranmere and Colchester are tough ones. The new years day home game against Carlisle is a tricky one but my bet would be a shrimps victory.

Any team that are losing 2-0 at half time, are going to go back to the dressing(down) room, re-group, and come back out with everything, including the kitchen sink, to throw at the opposition. That is what PV did, 2-0 down, sh!t or bust. Do we really believe that JB,would have told the Morecambe players......."sit back deep and defend for the whole second half, looking to catch them on the break." I very much doubt it. PV did what they HAD to do, to salvage anything, which we all know, they unfortunately did, with the help of a very poor decision against us.

Cranston, MOTM. Losing him "was a blow," as BW says. Didn't help our cause one bit.
My criticism with regard JB's decision making yesterday, is based around the subs. Kev, was cooked from about 60/65 minute, and needed to be replaced then. Although Oswell had a good game, and wasn't receiving much ball his way in the 2nd half. For me, he too started to look a bit jaded, around about the 70 minute, not really winning anything that did come his way. I think that was the point to bring VO on, mix it up, and hopefully put PV off their stride a bit.

Some people seem to have a better view of the second half performance than us. I actually said to Mrs A as we were walking away 'I can imagine the half time talk: "OK lads, you've dominated a poor Port Vale for the firs 45, second half let's sit back, invite 'em onto us, and give 'em a chance to get something out of the game."' Everyone sat around us seemed to be of a similar opinion, as was the guy who heard me say it outside the ground, whose comment was 'yeah, but he does it every time', or words to that effect. We should have carried on in the second half the way we finished the first. Kev shouldn't even have started the second half in my opinion. He's not just slow physically, but mentally his decision making is often poor. He was the only player not up to scratch first half. Cranston, however, fully justified as MOM; never send him back to full back, please.

Sorry Jim but 2 points were thrown away yesterday.

Oates should have started instead of Kevin yesterday and Kevin should have been the impact sub even though Oates made an impact winning the penalty.

We needed a 3rd goal before Port Vale scored and we should have continued playing in the 2nd half like we did for all the first half. Instead we sat back playing the containing game and our defence isn't good enough to take that pressure.

We are missing players like Mills , Tutte , Fleming , Wildig etc and IMHO we are missing Baz and his organisation of the defence.

Jim also needs to scrap the attempts at being "clever" with short corners, weird free kicks etc - just play basic football as the "clever" things simply never work. As for the offside trap, it was obvious we'd get caught out by it one day. Yesterday, we got caught out when it really mattered. We don't have the calibre of players to do the "tricks", so just play it straight.
