Gillingham 2 Morecambe 1 [Stockton] Match Thread

Morecambe were by far the better team. We played football and I don't think we should fear any team in this league. Lost only to a questionable free kick and a penalty that never was (in my humble opinion).
Heads up lads, you can't be so unlucky every game. Gillingham won't get as lucky again!!
COME ON YOU MORECAMBE REDS.

Edit: After watching the penalty decision again several times, I've got to admit it was correct.
O'Connor kicked out at their No 17 who went down as if he had been shot! We would have wanted a penalty had it been for us.

shit result, not sure with 4-3-3 leaves us to open, we seem to look better 3-5-2 like against Blackburn in the 2nd half.

Oh liked the look of new boy Duffus, looks pacy and runs well with the ball at his feet.

Didn't do enough in second 45 but please shoot when on goal not pass sideways.

Are we expecting too much from our huge squad :?: :?: :?:

Have we gone for quantity over quality :?: :?: :?:

For me a number of the signings don't look EFL1 quality but without doubt the loss of strikers is a big blow.

Least we are competing in every game so far

Charlton and Ipswich have made awful starts so just proves how tough this league is going to be

Knee jerk reaction for me. We looked the better side and comfortable, they had 5 minutes in the second half where we gave it away and let them get a head of steam.
Daft pen, that won it, final ball from both sides was awful. Draw all day without that crazy pen.
In Robbo we trust.

Be surprised if it's as many as at Ipswich....

Well over 100 probably nearer 200, good turnout with the Southern crew and some choice language from the Canterbury crew. Nice of them to let us in the covered stand

When we equalised going into half time i thought we would have won, clear penalty for us not given and our passing went from bad to worse.
Back to the drawing board with a big week ahead
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think

My worry is we have signed a lot of players but some seem to lack the quality needed for League 1. It’s going to take the manager some time to work out our best eleven but we need to be gaining points while he sorts it all out.

Being sloppy is what cost us yesterday. That can be worked on, and will be.

First goal, a cheap free kick, wall splits. Second, we hoof it out under no pressure, they throw long and then a cheap pen. Lloyd was always going down once he felt the hand on him.

My MOTM was Lavelle. Also Arthur’s best game for us. Callum looked bright as a button too.

One of the stewards told me we "only sold 104 tickets", which was why we'd been put in one end of that covered stand. It seemed like a lot more than a hundred by kick-off though.
Quite an even game. Possibly we played the 'better' football. We looked pretty good in patches - certainly not outclassed in L1. Had a bit of an iffy 10-15 minutes in the second half that ended in their penalty - couldn't honestly see from where I was how soft the award was.
Dodgy free-kick award for their first goal, although there must've been quite a hole in our wall.
If the refereeing had been even we should definitely have had a penalty for handball in the second half - they got a free-kick just outside our box for the exact same thing.
Overall I think we did quite well, although we obviously came away with no points. A bit more invention and precision needed for the final ball.

I agree with your summary except for the penalty. I too thought it was soft at first, but with the benefit of being able to replay it several times you can see that O'Connor kicks the foot/leg of their No 17 and he goes down dramatically. The Referee was well placed to see it, unfortunately!
