For those who were not there yesterday , bringing Fane on was an inspired substitution. He broke up play and was constantly closing the Burton players down, something we were not doing in the first half. Derek also subbed his captain and quite rightly so,Love was having a nightmare. Also got to mention the introduction of Watts, who reminds me a little of Carlos in his early days. Defenders don't know if he's going left, right, sideways or backwards, hence very difficult to defend against. I must admit the introduction of O'Connor did baffle me but three positive substitutions out of four will do for me. I support Derek 100% and to even think of changing managers now is utter madness.

I think O'Connor was brought on as a direct swap for Shaw to play in defensive midfield, whether he had run himself into the ground or the fact he had a yellow card I don't know but O'Connor is probably a more physical presence there than Mcloughlin so I can sort of understand the swap.

The idea of changing managers is probably a none starter, the board love Derek and even if they didn't I doubt there is any money to pay him off or bring anyone new in, which begs the question who would even replace him? Seems pretty clear he won't be going anywhere so there's nothing we can do but get behind him and the team.

On the AOC for Shaw sub, I didn't notice this at the time and was pretty bemused by it but a friend was pretty sure he saw Shaw limping just before being taken off, so it could have been precautionary.

I'm a bit disappointed not to see McLoughlin given a go instead of Fane in that role of going to try and harry the opposition a bit further up the pitch. May not be quite as destructive as Fane, but he's got the legs for it and is technically a better player. While the conditions on Saturday did make it harder to control the ball, some of Fane's attempts to get the ball under control were very poor.

I haven't called for, nor am I calling for Derek to be sacked.

What I do want is for us to actually set up to try and win games, rather than carrying on as we are, which is quite clearly failing. We're already a long way short of safety, so we need to start going in to games, set up to win them. Saturday was a game we should have been looking to win, not simply hoofing long balls aimlessly up the pitch, to just come straight back at us.

On the evidence so far, Burton & us will be meeting again in League Two, as they were poor too.

Has a team that are bottom at Christmas ever survived?

Exactly , nobody has ever been relegated after 13 games. We have a game in hand ( Derby home) on 2 of the teams in the bottom 4 with us.

Let's not forget who we are and where we came from. We are minnows in this league. We should just make the most of and enjoy the League 1 ride as much as we can. Trust in Derek to turn it around, he deserves our patience, he gave us a brilliant day in the Wembley sun, and a fantastic run in last season with the Charlton and Oxford wins etc. The Charlton away win is up there with the best away days I have ever experienced.

Not wishing to be pedantic, but we are actually more than two wins of reaching 20th position, and whilst things can change quickly, as results have gone for the first 13 games, it would take 39 games to get those 2 wins, although I certainly hope it doesn’t!!!

I think Derek is now living in hope that new owners come in and give him 3 or 4 new players in January to make him play for a win with more confidence.
If this doesn't happen, which I don't think it will, just strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride

Tonight against Harrogate is an opportunity for Derek to play a more expansive game.

Morecambe 0 Hartlepool 0
Hartlepool bottom of League Two

Harrogate 2 Morecambe 1
Harrogate fifth from bottom in League Two

One goal. No win, one draw, one defeat.

Good job it was only Pappa Johns and not an indication of how well we're doing in the league, and we can't expect to be competing with such huge, wealthy clubs as Harrogate & Hartepool...
