It's a wind-up, trust me.

More likely to be Luton.

According to the Non League Paper it is a done deal that the two are coming North. It was on the back page of the paper this morning.

Good luck to 'em if York is their port of call.

Worries me that we seem unable to even get an Accy player on board. I suppose it could be an isloted case where money hasn't been the significant factor.

No point in risking another embargo. However not sure how Barnet got away with it having admitted that they exceeded their playing budget by £250,000 by using the loan system to its maximum.

Deal confirmed so we can draw a line under this one. They've even added another!

A York City fan told me they are the bidders. If the deal comes off and with that sort of cash, at 33-1 for promotion they might be worth a punt.

York City now into 12-1.

Terrible signings for York. £80k on two average Conference players.

They will finish mid table.

They would have been better offering £78k, and spending a couple of grand on the away end toilet facilities!

I couldn't comment as I've seen neither of them play. I know someone who saw Gash absolutely rip Barrow apart last season and he says he's a great young prospect who is well worth the punt. Their fans are virtually unanimous in saying Charles is too good for that division and, along with their keeper, was their stand-out player last season.

We'll see.

I totally agree with Shrimper. We invested £50K in Carl Baker, despite an interesting reputation for the booze, and a good sum for Mark Duffy, who played in a league lower than any of the Ebbsfleet players as a part-time player.

I spoke to my friend who is involved at York City and they're saying that Gash and Charles are an investment. They're 21 and 22 with Charles being regarded as the best centre half in the Conference.

In the current climate £80K, albeit for three players is a lot of money, but if they got York promoted or generated bids like that for Boyd, Morison etc. then they will recoup the money and more. Call it bravery or call it madness but its that kind of investment in young partly-proven talent that's got Peterborough into the Championship and Exeter into League 1.

To my mind the future is in bringing through young players or good scouting at the lower levels. Experienced players will keep us in the league but its the talent like Thommo, Baker and others who'll get us promoted.

Yorks team is so poor at the moment that it would take a minor miracle to turn them into a team capable of getting promotion and the players they have brought in this Summer have been less than inspiring.

Charles looks the better of the two players but Gash doesn't look like a good prospect at all considering another Conference club released him not so long ago.

As I said, I will be hugely surprised if they finish above mid table.

Like Shrimper says, "we'll see".

This article http://soccerlens.com/eight-future-star ... all/30995/ hopefully backs what we're saying.

A few very interesting names here that have bounced around like Gash but then someone else has polished up the diamond like Nicky Wroe at Torquay who was at York.

One name for a few people is Exodus Geohagen who I thought was superb in the two games he played against us. A few of us thought then we should be in for him because he looked class but no one wanted to take a look.

"another Conference club released him not so long ago."

Two years ago.

He was about 19 then and behind a couple of more experienced players in the pecking order.

It's like us getting a couple more strikers in and letting Aaron go to, say, Lancaster. Then he bulks up a bit, scores a bagful of goals with them and is picked up by Forest Green, does well with them and gets scouted and picked up by, say, Wrexham.

As I say, I've not seen him but a few who have reckon he's worth the chance.

Anyway........ we'll see.

I completely agree with what you're saying regarding picking players up from lower down the pyramid but I just don't think Gash is ever going to be anything other than an average to good Conference player. Charles I rate a bit higher but as you said, it's only something that time will tell.

I think for a club in York's situation they aren't in any position to start throwing £80k about on players in the hope that they will come good and they can earn a bit of money out of them.

York are spending some of their £300k windfall from getting to the FA Trophy Final earlier this year ;)

Fair enough - as I say, I've not seen him, just going off what one or two others have said who have seen him.

Sounds as though the deal will be restructured with only Gash going to York for £60K.

The other lad involved didn't want to move out of London.

£60K too much?

After all that, Gash appears to be staying put - or is he?

Yeah I noticed that too. The step up to League 1 was maybe too much for him although he did score a few goals at that level considering his number of starts. Maybe it will suit him in this division and may be Crewe's main threat now Pope has gone

Donaldson's agent is touting him round at £2,500 a week so I hear. Another player pricing himself out of the market.

What planet do these agents and players live on?

Do they really believe that they are immune from the present financial problems, when people are loosing their jobs; taking pay cuts or working 4 day weeks?

We need strikers (some would say badly) but to me it's more important that we survive financially to be around for a long time. By all means pay good money for quality but not ridiculous fees and pay packets for middle of the road players just to appease fans.
