Maybe Podge has just found his right level.

In Jim we trust.

Exactly, stop comparing a poorer division. Jordan Burrows has found his level after struggling with us and Stevenage. Should we sign him back as he is scoring in the 5th division?

did amond get a decent run, in his favoured position for us, though?

82 games 19 goals, a reasonable return when he as stuck out on the wing quite a lot.

Wasn't prolific with us, probably didn't get a decent run or play in his preferred position but was very much admired by Jim
BUT at the time his contract was up for discussion/renewal WE DID NOT have the resources available to match his requirements/demands! End of subject and we move on! I doubt very much we would have got the players we have signed pre season if we had matched his wage requirements (hate the word demands). Good luck Amond and I hope you score loads

I have no doubt Amond would still be with us if we knew(hindsight) we were going to sell Redshaw for a six figure sum before we did at the back end of summer.

Jim was just freeing up money to bring somebody else in, and he's done some shrewd business this summer.

I was sorry to see Amond go and I also think he deserved a run in his preferred position.

But, if for example, letting Podge go meant we could sign Wildig, or keep Amond and miss out on signing Aaron, then I'd have let him go. Good luck to him, I hope he finishes as the league's top scorer, but with the evidence we had at the time, the right decision was made.

How the hell can you say that Keith?

He scored 10 goals last season mainly from the subs bench. If Jim has played him in his favoured position and not stuck out on the wing then his goal tally would have been far superior to any other striker on the books. OK he's not blessed with pace but the Grimsby people obviously see him as an out and out striker something that we so badly need.

270 minutes of play to date...1 goal...scored by a midfielder of pure quality. That surely tells you that Padraig will be sadly missed.... :?: :?: :?:

Given the choice, I'd have him back but this is a lot of crowing over, with respect, a fairly average player. Out of position? Not all the time he wasn't.

Because at the time we had Jack Redshaw as number one choice and we needed to free up wages if we were to sign other players. In the absence of a crystal ball, what would you have done?

I certainly wouldn't have given Alex Kenyon an extended contract during the season and looked at off loading both Fleming and Wilson.

Neil I think jimbo would disagree with you regarding Flemmo and Willow.
I seem to remember at the fans forum in April that Jim praised both of them. Did he not say that willow had had a great season, considering what he had going on in his personal life, during the season?? And he said, think, that Fleming wasn't the finished article.
I feel that Flemmo is obviously not the first choice midfielder at the moment. Will it take a few more injuries for him to get into the starting eleven ?? The answer to this, I feel, is a big YES.
To get rid of either of them, at this time would be a mistake.
In the end up Jim picks the team even though at times we may disagree, he only wants the best for the club.

Neil, if you'd got rid of Willo, we would have struggled to replace him, as we found out the last time he left!
Don't talk such utter bollocks.
It's all about opinions but some days you do spout some garbage, and if you cannot see that Willo is the best left back we have had since we got on the league, when five people have come in and not successfully replaced him, then you are not watching the same games as the rest of us for the past 8 seasons!

That's my opinion, based on the 46 games seen last season!
:D

I respect (almost) all other SVers opinions but Jimbo has said that Fleming has this season to prove that he is worthy of a further contract. For me that suggests that Jim isn't totally convinced that he will progress any further which if he was looking to reduce the wage bill to allow for new recruits (an excellent job that he has done by the way) then Fleming should have been made available for a move.

McGowan is more than an adequate replacement for Willow and is 2 footed as well.

However I accept that others will have different thoughts.

I am usually chief ''neilbaiter'' on here, but on the subject of Amond i am in total agreement, it was daft getting rid, he ,far from ''finding his level'' is probably going to bang in a load of goals helping to promote Grimsby, AND PROBABLY COME HERE NEXT SEASON AND RUB OUR NOSES IN IT!!

Fleming too, not good enough, sorry, and a lot of people in the areas we sit agree.
I cannot agree about Wilson though, he will put his difficulties behind him,and come good again.

Because, as you point out with tedious regularity, he's entitled to his opinion.

Had anyone addressed you in theway you have just done, the dummy would have been spat out and the toys would be over the floor.

Oh.... Amond Watch

For what its worth I'm glad Podge is doing well. I think he deserved another go here, but I don't think the management did hence he was released before the budget constraints tighted whilst Jimbo was in T'gypt - finances didn't come into it. Got to back Jimbos judgement; he's been wrong to often with his perosnnel choices so far; nobody has really gone on to prove themselves at a higher level after being allowed to leave.
