O/T HM Revenue scam

This is NOT a return of CC to SVs but I've been warned of a scam circulating that claims to be from HM REVENUE who suggest that you are entitled to a Tax Refund by completion of an attached form. The form requires details of your bank PLUS the security number on the reverse of your card.

As a former SVer and life long Shrimps fan I thought that it is right that everybody should be made aware of this scam......but no doubt some will choose to be negative about this 'one off' post.

Speaking as an accountant and one who deals with HMRC and Tax returns I can confirm that the Inland Revenue DOES NOT contact taxpayers by email to inform them about Tax refunds.

I know a number of people who have received these emails asking for bank details so that they can send you a Tax refund. They are scams and under no circumstances give your bank details to them.

Welcome back C.C.

What's all this 'welcome back' business? CC has said it is not a return to posting just a warning to fellow Shrimps fans. As such I'd say...Thanks CC.......and welcome back!

I got a P800 from HMRC a few weeks ago telling me I'd underpaid a couple of hundred quid in the last tax year. They're going to reduce my Tax Code for the 2016/17 FY to recover the underpayment equally over 12 months.

Last year I got a P800 telling me I'd overpaid by a similar amount, and got a cheque sent separately.

I found out about the following recently...

https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance-guide/how-it-works

...and it's something I was unaware of. Me and Doris are eligible to transfer some of her allowance over to me, so have clawed back what I owe, with a few quid left over. :D

Ref the link in the previous posting.

Received a Notice of Coding this morning telling me that £1,060 of Doris' Personal Allowance has been transferred to me. That means an extra £212 coming my way this FY.

Only put in the application online last Thursday. Very quick, well done HMRC. :)
