Looking a long way off, but if we don't make the play offs this season we could have a bumper year of home gates plus plum away days within reach of more fans, when blackpool ,fleetwood, oldham, and possibly bradford all come on down, and maybe tranny mere come up, great stuff, ''arf arf,chortle!''

Why , what benefit was there from the last free game ???.
The club still have wages and bills to pay week in week out and with no increse in crowds from the last freebie, does the town deserve another freebie?.

No point in doing any free/discounted deals until the overall match-day experience is better.

Does more harm than good to get more people to watch a poor game, with a poor atmosphere, poor catering facilities etc. Just look at the "Super Sunday" fiasco that probably lost us more regular fans than brought in new faces!

We need to stop the numbers falling further by trying to keep the regulars we already have - that's got to be the priority.

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong but I'm sure I heard that the difference in income from the free game to what we would have taken under normal circumstances was negligible.

In other words, 4000+ people getting in free but spending on programmes, food & drink, half time draw tickets etc wasn't too dissimilar to 1100 people paying to watch the game.

It's not the loss of revenue on the 'free' game that matters.
You want people to return again and again, that's what counts.
How do you do that?
Great performance, great atmosphere, great anything else that'll sow the seed.
Maintain that great performance, maintain that great atmosphere, offer inducements at the 'free match'.

You can never guarantee that though, even if we were on a run of 10 consecutive 5-0 victories we could still let everyone in for free and then play out a dull game with few chances where we lose 1-0 through a 90th minute own goal.

If that's your attitude then we may as well just give up marketing the club all together as supposedly it's a waste of time unless we can guarantee the match is going to be a pulsating end to end affair with Morecambe ultimately coming out on top.

Next Tuesday is also Champions League night so the crowd is bound to be lower anyway and Crawley won't bring massive amounts of fans.

No-one's saying that they have to win, but actually a half decent game would be good, even if they lose. Too many times, the on-pitch entertainment has been incredibly poor, with the team just not looking as if they care. That's nothing to do with ability or poor refs or dirty teams. Somehow Jim has to tackle that mindset. I think it was the Super Sunday against Exeter which was one of our worst performances. The team can be very "Jeckyl and Hyde" at times!

But the off-pitch experience can also be poor. How can they run out of pies or hot-dogs or beer - yet they do! How can the toilets be filthy before the fans even start coming into the ground - but at times they have been. Why is the service for food & drink so slow? Fans aren't going to be keen to come and watch if they think they may be caught up in a brawl in the terraces. You're not going to get parents with young children coming to subject them to foul-mouthed swearing in the songs and chants. The website is poor and often out of date, missing information or with broken links. Marketing is little more than constantly doing the same thing and expecting different results - hardly ever any new ideas. The directors and staff fawn over the hospitality crowd yet appear to treat everyone else as some kind of lesser mortal with contempt.

There's a lot of work to do in ALL areas to keep the existing numbers from falling further and then to start getting the numbers to increase. Jim is very nearly there with the team which is the best for a long time. Now it's time to start hitting the off-pitch problems.

46 goals in 12 games? How much entertainment are you expecting??? As was apparently said on Sky Sports last Saturday "it's never dull when Morecambe are in town".

THe off the pitch facilities are actually pretty good, and reasonable value for money, I'm getting a bit bored with folk whining about them, the only major change i would make is somehow making an access point from the downstairs bar to the home end, thisvwould not be rocket science, and would yeild instant returns for the club.

Turnover, yes, but not profit. The overheads are similar whether 1500 turn up or 2500, basically meaning the £15,000 extra takings less VAT is a bonus.
If people get in for free and spend £20,000 while they are there you are probably only making 1/4 of that...
It was said at the time "we won't be doing that again"!
