If you buy a programme 19th November between 12pm - 7pm. Hopefully this will attract over the average crowd for a midweek game at the globe. Great offer by the club !

Great promotion BUT its success will depend on getting the info over to the public of Morecambe.

This can only be successful if a blanket media campaign is undertaken and this will depend on the success or otherwise of the marketing team at our club in its negotiations with the local media.

We can play our part of course by telling as many people as possible in the hope of informing those who do not listen to local radio or read the local press.

Let's hope that it proves successful....

And if it is successful it should be replicated against Dagenham on Tuesday December 1st.

Its a good idea , I would think that for the midweek games where our hard-core drops to around 1,000/1,200 that most of them will be season ticket holders. This offer should boost the number of walk-ons and although may not add much in revenue , it could encourage some of our "lost" fans to return.

I haven't read the fine print but how does the offer affect the 3 free children under 14 ?

Cambridge fans are also being offered the same benefits but must watch the game from the away seating section of the PMG Main Stand.
The club is also extending its extremely popular KIDS GO FREE @ MFC offer so every adult may add up to three Under 14s free on their ticket. This must be done in the club shop on the day of the match, details provided when you buy the programme.

Don't know if we have any Man U fans amongst us, l used to work with some many years ago, they kept talking about a similar scheme M.U. used to run. I wonder if this could by a pilot for us for next season.

It is a great one off event that we can justify doing once a season at most, but anyone with an ounce of business acumen will realise we can't turn it into a regular offer.

If we did, it would become the expected price of the football and then less people would be willing to pay normal match day prices.

This is an investment by the club to get people down to see us play and hopefully people will like what they see and come back again. Ideally, there will be people selling tickets to the Dagenham game on the night.

Great offer MFC! I will probably buy half a dozen and give them out to newbies I can drag down.

If promoted well, we could get 3000+. Cambridge will probably bring twice as many too.

Hope the club is collecting emails/telephone numbers when selling these tickets for future marketing. ;)

An Ideal opportunity to actually treat a few mates to a freebie, i'll be happy to drive 3 or 4 down and drop them home afterwards, well done commercial dept.

I have some business acumen and I think it would be just as appropriate to do it for the Dagenham match on 1st December as it is for the Cambridge one. If the offer turns crowds of 1,200 into 2,000 then how can that be a bad thing.
Obviously these 2 matches would have to the exception and then return the prices to normal.

It can be a bad thing if it means the club don't have the cash to pay players wages this month.

How much contribution do you think the game will make after costs? The club will be making a loss on the night. The £3 will barely cover the cost of the programme let alone all the costs of staging a game (stewarding, overheads etc). I'd be surprised if the catering even makes a surplus after wages as there can't be much, if any, margin in £2 pints.

Like I said, it is a big investment by the club and a very good idea for one game. But it is only ever going to be one game. What might be more feasible is handing out vouchers to everyone to get them back for the Dagenham game at a cheaper rate e.g. £10. I'm sure the commercial team are considering their options.

How many "walk-ons" paying cash would there be in a game where we have say 1,000 home fans ? I'm not sure as the club don't disclose the number of season tickets that are sold.
If we have say 200 that normally pay the full price then if we can get the total gate up to 2,000 the cash shortfall may be very slight or if we sell more food and drink then it may even result in more cash.

You are thinking in terms of revenue though, not contribution towards the costs of running the club.

I don't think this offer will be making any contribution, hence it is an investment by the club which is fantastic, but it can and will only be a once-a-season (at most) initiative.

Treating them to a freebie Mr PH , so your mates must be under 14 !!!! .

Agree with Jack this will be a loss maker. Don't forgot also if all 600 season ticket holders take their free programme and free drink that is over £2k cost of sales lost.

Let's hope this generous offer gets across to the people of morecambe and the surrounding area , no point just putting it on the OWS and Voices it needs radio, press and poster coverage around the area as well as word of mouth .

The bean counters at the club will no doubt analyse the figures for the Cambridge match and work out the financial implications better than the back of a fag packet calculations on here.

The object of the exercise is to build up the support.

Just listening to Mark Dixon on the interview re the £3 programme offer , he seemed to suggest that there would be some sort of promotion for the Dagenham league match on 1st December. This has to be better than sitting and waiting for the predictable 1,100ish to turn up. It won't be as generous an offer as the Cambridge match but it is at last a strategy to build up our gates.

Pushing 30-35% I'd say, probably more on bottled beer. £3 is the normal price for a programme, so the club won't lose money there, probably make the ppu cheaper because of a larger order.... Maybe even cheap enough for giving 600 away free to ST holders.

When the club did a similar promotion a couple of years ago, they announced in the press that they made a similar profit by letting people in for free vs what they would have taken on the night had it been a 1200 crowd.

For me it's not the cost of doing the promotion (people who would normally have paid full price to go to the game (400 or so?), It's the opportunity cost of doing nothing and settling for our current crowds.
