In the Sunday People today......
Tottenham are leading the race for Morecambe's £2m-rated forward Tom Barkhuizen.
2m is a bit steep but at a quarter of that it would be a shrewd bit of business we got him on a free.
The worrying thing is that if there's any truth in it he WILL be sold.

If this is true and happens, then a good bit of business, by Jim.

For 2m they could have the whole squad and a Northern based training complex.

got to ask the question what would you do with the money if you were PMG?
it appears we are in a relegation battle, and we can't defend for shit.
1] sign a couple of battle hardened stoppers(CBs).
2] finish building the ground off properly, with a undercover area behind the omega stand and finish the berlin wall stand with a roof, to try and win fans back and the match day experience.

Sign the players that we need importantly to keep us up then look at ground improvements once we get results and better attendances. The Sunday papers can't be trusted with truth.

I think he woukd keep it, and say , ''I'll knock it off what you owe me'' .

but building the ground off properly will only add to the value to PMG business investment, as well as encourage new fans to comeback and just as important keep the fans we already have by having better facilities on the terrace, and end people slagging the ground off and people saying they would have rather stayed at CP.

What I want to know is how much Shrimper has had to do with all this? Oh, and have we agreed yet?

I think top clubs will now be looking at the lower leagues even more so now because of Jamie Vardy, and Chris Smalling, being written off and then turning their careers around in the lower leagues.
I think Managers in the premier league are now realizing that you need home grown players, and having to many overseas players in your team, as a negative effect.
ie. look at the mess at Newcastle, they are going down!
but then the success at Leicester and Crystal Palace, signing players from lower leagues
oh and that Ali who got capped by England, Spurs got him from MK Dons.

I wonder if this helps explain the dip in form. Both Barky and Miller certainly put themselves in the shop window last month, so perhaps now they're starting to get interest from bigger clubs, they're not putting their all in to Morecambe anymore. (Not that I'm blaming them for November's fiascos, but each have missed some good opportunities to score). At the end of the day, these higher players who Jim brings in after a dip in form or injury aren't going to have any real loyalty to Morecambe.

Hate to see him go, but I'd imagine it would take a lot less than £2m to get his signature.
Probably need £800,000+ to plug the hole in our finances but hopefully enough left over build a concourse and buy a couple of players that can defend.

Disagree entirely; it is in no ones interest not to put it all in as the object of the exercise surely is to generate and maintain interest.Barky still puts himself about and gets knocks in the process (ie Cambridge). If they don't get the service there's not much they can do.
IF there's any truth behind this (leaving out the price which is ridiculous) the smart move is to sign and be loaned back until the end of the season. That is a win/win.

there are roofs over 3 sides of the ground, 2 sides usually half full, tbe other usually empty, so no, its a waste of money putting one on the open terrace, as for putting value on the stadium, sorry, another no, PMG, cannot sell it as it is now, so putting value on it wont happen, if anything, the pie in the sky money that we are not getting, would be best spent behind the home end.

Unfortunately, losing 1/2 million per year on average, it'd only plug the hole for one or two years and may not be enough to fund the concourse. We've been selling off (or borrowing against) bits of land/property each year to fund that yearly loss and there's not really much left to sell/secure against.

The stadium is worthless without the football club. What else could it be used for? The football club getting even lower in terms of league situation and crowds, etc., would drag the entire stadium down towards bankruptcy. However busy the W&L may be for parties and corporate training, it'll only ever be icing on the cake and would never generate enough profit to fund the whole site. A roof on the North Stand would only help if it incorporated offices etc behind/above that was rented out for a good return - enough to pay for itself and still contribute to the club's coffers - very doubtful as it would cost a fortune and there's loads of empty office space around here, so would probably turn into another white elephant. I think they should also forget the idea of some fancy concourse behind the Omega - far too expensive and the money just isn't there and won't generate the return needed. Instead they should do something cheep and cheerful, such as some kind of temporary structure to provide protection from the elements, such as a big canopy and maybe some kind of catering van to reduce the queues.

I'm not sure that 'we' have sold any land that the club owns. I'm not sure we'd be able to do that because of the covenant on the land.

its very very random Spurs looking at a Morecambe player?
I can understand if it said something like Spurs are gonna go for Vardy, assuming cos he's scoring goals they're going to be interested, and it sells papers.
I can imagine a Spurs scout watching Barky cos of his pace, and it's been leaked.

There's always a market for pace but 2m is a awful lot to pay for any potential which is there.
I'm not suggesting that Barky is the next Vardy, but Vardy is 28 and Barky 22. Where was Vardy 6 years ago?
Hence I can understand interest but not at that price.

£2m to Tottenham
Why on earth would they wana sign a league 2 player when they've got the money to compete with anyone besides city an Chelsea in the country ! This is the reason I stopped buying papers because of the Rubbish what gets wrote in them !
