Neil, not being funny, but I'm sick to the back f*****g teeth with people ringing me about these bladdy things, without coming on Shrimpsvoices and have someone pushing it.

Sorry an all that, but it really does p**s me off with all the phone calls.

Phil,
Totally take your point and like you I get totally pissed off with unsolicited calls of any kind.

The only reason that I brought it to the attention of our fellow SVers was that my daughter had heard about this and that it was launched as a nationwide awareness campaign by a 'reputable' financial site who wanted as many of the population as possible to claim for a financial windfall that they may be entitled to.

What I would suggest is DIY...resulting in the leach companies who take a high percentage of whatever is available having a hard time, something that I welcome... :o :o :o

Just thought I'd say I responded to a letter from AI Scheme last year as I had purchased credit card protection, and a received a cheque for £375 compensation last autumn!

A new trick some of these bloody PPI etc companies are using in order you answer your phone.

They are routing their calls through local exchanges now.

So. The other night I got a call from an "01995" phone number. Garstang area.

I ignored it as I was having my tea and (as I have friends in Garstang) said to myself I'll call back in a bit.

Phones said "01995" number.

"Ah hello, you're ringing back on the strength of a missed call. Have you ever had PPI?"

Promptly told to "cough".

I may have said this before, so please excuse me if I have, but you could try this trick. When they ask for Mr/Mrs/Ms whoever, say 'just a minute, I'll go and get them'. Leave the phone for a while so you're running their bill up. They eventually hang up, but...

I always ask the cold callers for their password, this always frustrates them ,and is amusing , giving them a temporary password , ''C U Next Tuesday'', I then tell them to hang up and dial my direct number, and quote their password , I then give them the number for ''nice n spicy''.

I used to get a lot of automated cold callers. If I wasn't busy, I'd press the number to speak to an operative, then get chatting with them, not letting them get to their script for as long as possible. Eventually they'd get a chance and mention PPI. I'd then say, "no, I never had it, it was clearly a rip off so I didn't bother". Funnily enough, the calls very quickly dried up!

For once, CC has posted a unique link to a refund scheme. This is not PPI, it's a product sold as Sentinel, a credit card loss/protection company. Part of it includes insurance against loss and it's that part that the company are deemed to have over sold because the card companies themselves cover a lot of the losses.

I've a policy trying to decide whether to claim or not, claimants have their accounts closed immediately and it's actually a good scheme. I've used them twice when I've lost cards and they've been excellent notifying all the banks for me.

After posting that last comment, I decided to go ahead and claim. My compensation cheque arrived today so thanks for posting this Neil.

If you've received anything from AI Scheme, it really isn't PPI, it's a unique compensation scheme about 1 group of companies. I believe the deadline for claims is very close so if you've sat on the paperwork, get it filled in and send it off.

Wonder what I could buy with the cheque .....
