Should we have a new penalty taker

Misses have cost us valuable points.Time for a new penalty taker?
Ellison for me assuming he is on the pitch.

Bazza, always on the pitch so no need to change, also I reckon he would have the hardest kick in the team.

Everyone misses sometime, but if we had a penalty taker, taking a penalty, like the way the last peterborough player did against wba last night, then he would be playing for the reserves in his next match.

Ellison would be my last choice, woeful penalty taker.

I'm happy enough with either Miller or Mullin taking penalties.

Kev has a poor record for us taking penalties , missed a few including one that would have knocked Preston North End out of the JPT.

Not that long ago we were wondering where our next penalty would come from as we were never in the box.....
I still say the penalties were saved , not missed

OK, a couple of chances missed, but they were on target, so were saved rather than missed as Marky says. Go back last year, and we were missing them - I recall Redshaw's that went straight over the Omega roof, as did another against Accy I think (was it Amond) and Devitt's that was saved, but he was too busy head in hands with grief that he missed an easy chance on the rebound! What about cup match penalties 2/3 seasons ago where we were hopeless? At the end of the day, Miller and Mullin are on target most (if not all) of the time, and sometimes, saves are made - hasn't Barry made a couple of good penalty saves this season?

Whilst they may have been saved the bottom line is a free shot from 12 yards should be regarded as a gift and the keeper is second favourite. Both Miller and Mullin have missed more than once this season and not on account of world class saves so maybe it's time to give the responsibility to someone else as having both missed last time they would be under more pressure.
That's why I asked the question.

Any excuse to have a pop at anything to do with MFC seems to be the favoured action of late.....

PMcG; The Globe; Blackpool Shrimp.....now it's Penalty takers......GET A BLOODY LIFE and SUPPORT....

You really would have something to complain about if we got relegated.

I am asking what I consider to be a reasonable question NOT having a pop at MFC.The bottom line is missed pens have cost us points.

This is a more than reasonable bitch and moan, I'd love to know our actual stats from the spot, I reckon it's about 50%, which frankly is terrible. Needs to be nearer 90% and the strikers need to be practicing every session on them at the moment as we are bloody terrible from 12 yards out.

I don't care what league we are in or who's taking them, a player getting paid to play football, especially as a striker, you should be backing at the very worst, 8/10 times from the spot, even if its against Schmeichel in his pomp channelling the spirit of Lev Yashin.

Agree plenty of practice but penalty taking is mainly down to confidence for an experienced striker. A striker who thinks he will.....probably will (whether it's score or miss).

On the subject of practising, why doesn't Ellison take part in the goal shots in the warm ups before a game. Nearly everyone else, except the centre backs, come over and have a few shots, but Big Kev seems to always stay in the middle kicking long balls to the subs. Considering the amount of missed shots he has, either wide or over, I'd have thought a bit of practice before each match would be a good thing.

Perhaps not a new taker but a different approach to them. Barcelona have just scored an outrageous penalty. They have succeeded where Henry and Pires failed.

I'm not sure where you have acquired your stats from but if my memory serves me right, then this season we have scored 9/13 (70%) penalties if you consider Mullin's rebounded one as a goal, just unfortunate that 2 of these were missed in a game that resulted in a 2-1 defeat.
Mullin 6/8
Miller 2/4
Devitt 1/1

I wouldn't really consider it an issue and would be happy to see any of the above place the ball on the spot next time we get a penalty.

So Miller 50% and Mullin 75%
Leave it to Dev until he misses.

Lad I work with, his dad played for Australia in the 60's, he was their keeper, Bill Rorke.
he played against Russia when Yashin was playing and said he had the biggest hands he'd ever seen.

70% is not good enough. For example the stats for the premier league since its inception is 85%.

Last year if we have scored all our pens we'd have been in the playoffs. We get a penalty now I'm simply not confident that it goes in!

Maybe the 15% difference is why Morecambe are in League 2 and not the premier league then

It should be relative.

The takers are worse but so are the goalkeepers.
