O/T Hamstring injuries

The growing number of hamstring injuries throughout football suggests that pre match preparation both in the days leading up to a game and in the pre match warm up may be a contributing factor.

The article below makes interesting reading....

It's funny you should post this as I was only discussing this exact topic the other day with a friend of mine.

They seem to be happening more and more now than ever before. I was considering the grounds played on today compared to years ago as an issue, there used to be a lot more give in pitches and the general play was a lot slower, my thinking was that the pitches now are so fast/light and the game is so demanding that it is leading to more injuries sustained during training and matches.

ACL injury is another one that we are seeing more and more which results from usually a sharp twist of the knee area.

I'm not sure how much the pre match warm ups may have changed over the years, you'd like to think with the science available now that they would have the answers available to prevent these injuries instead of them becoming more common.

a lot do say, we train to much, doing impact stuff, charging about.

you might all laugh! but some teams now aswell as other sports have Yoga teachers for stretching exercises, mainly to help injury prevention.

believe Stu Drummond's wife is a Yoga teacher, and a decent one at that!

Mark Lillis used to have the lads doing a good pre match warm up. It was quite intensive but looked quite innovative. Jim and Artell used to grab Les and do some headers whilst Twissy just walked round the centre circle. Nowadays it looks like 11 lads ready to start a game in the Cobblers league.
