Could lead to an interim renaming of the Globe - let's do it!

Bloody stupid idea.

When the club is short of money why even consider such a move that would involve expense in producing new signage; new stationary and everything associated with a name change.

OK Globe Construction as a company no longer exists but the stadium is now known as The Globe and should remain so until a new sponsor comes along who as part of any deal will pay the cost of a total re-brand.

:) :) :)

Sod the cost, why has it been with an agency for 18 months and why haven't we driven it ourselves?

I despair sometimes, I really do.

What they should do is rename it "Christie Arena" and then try and sell it as the "Umbro Christie Arena" for example. That'd work.

According to MD they did try themselves to obtain a sponsor but the negotiations didn't materialize so the club handed it over to an agency who will take a percentage of any deal. MD and I disagreed about the percentage at the recent Forum. He reckons 10%. :?: :?: :?:

Shoddy reporting to say the least, I am sure that the Christie name would be popular amongst the fans we have left, but realistically its going to be a company name that it goes to in the long term anyway, tnere are far more pressing matters, like league survival , to be dealt with.

This is the problem. The stadium should've been given a generic name from the start which wouldn't have left us in this daft situation. Hopefully something will be done over the next few months, maybe during close season... an FCOM competition perhaps... and, as Supermarket Shrimp suggests, could still be tied in with whoever sponsors the stadium at the time. How about "The Virgin Trains J.B.Christie Stadium"?

It actually went something like this:

CC "Why have we given this to an agency, theyll want at least 20-25% commission"
MD "written the contract have you Neil?"
CC "No, but I used to work in marketing so I know how much these things cost!!!
MD "It's 10% Neil."

I think they call that being shot down in flames.

I thought Nigel Adams (The OmegaMan) response to your question about how come Kendal Town can get Pye Motors was fair, but open ended and perhaps could've led to the following questions: why don't we know what the commercial arrangement is and have we asked them (Pye Motors) if they'd be interested in sponsoring our club?

He also said something like "nobody has approached us with those types of figures (in reply to Neil asking wouldnt they accept £25k as its better than nothing and pays a players wage)... or anything close to what its worth" - interesting to know what the club value ground sponsorship a?!?... because at the moment its looking pretty worthless!

If we can find the funds to change signage in the interim whilst a new ground sponsor is found then I think we should for two reasons:

The name has no meaning to the club or its supporters.
It is associated to a failed company, and it seems to be the clubs preference for this to be the case even whilst trying to find another willing party to take on the sponsorship.... which I think looks bad to anybody else wanting to sponsor the ground, because if the Globe is the stadiums 'proper' name (with all of these sponsored grounds, everybody knows them by their 'proper' name e.g. I have no idea what Accys ground is currently called, I know it as The Crown Ground... and that it used to be The Fraser Eagle Stadium...) this paints bad perception to interested parties IMO.

Personally I think the club are reluctant to change the name because they perceive that the name is now established locally for events and functions, nothing to do with Football. In reality if you say you're off to the Globe, many people living locally will think you're talking about the pub in Overton!

Whilst I respect RRW and his point of view I still feel that if money is available then it should be spent on securing the signatures of those players who are out of contract and have indicated that the offer of a new contract is not acceptable...at the moment.

Money spent on a temporary re branding is a complete waste when we need all the pennies we have to be spent on more worthwhile projects...in my opinion.

Should be known as the Westgate Stadium as that is the area it is situated. Shame we can't get spillers to sponsor it The Winalot Stadium! :D :D

Neil is actually correct, at the moment it is not a priority worth wasting money on, the best option is to wait and see who actually comes up with money to sponsor it, and hopefully, they may realise there is merit in incorporating the C word in the name :)

10% of the first year would be sensible, but I would suggest it is 10% per annum which would mount up over the years.
As has been said, it depends what the Club value it at. Sitting it out and doing nothing is a kop out imho.

I think getting on to Spillers is a good idea, not sure about Winalot dog food, but pony food would be perfect.

Would certainly be interesting to have a proper poll done amongst our fanbase:

In absence of a ground sponsor do you like the ground being called the Globe:

A: No, I hate it and it should be changed.
B: I like the name for the time being.
C: It doesn't bother me what the ground is called.

I think it is wrong for any of us to state that 'the majority of fans hate the name' when we haven't been asked. Perhaps this is something FCoM could coordinate so we at least have some understanding of how big an issue this is. I think the badge should be on put to a vote also, because I hate that more than the ground name!

I agree, I did an online poll last year on wether fans would like the name 'christie park'' insteadbof globe, it got around 250 votes. I dont mind globe , I prefer christie though, and like RRW I hate the shrimp badge, its vile.

I like the idea of bringing in a Chinese player called Fan Power, he would sell a few shirts.

Yes a few people discussing on here is not a majority.

Globe Construction are now Globe Management Services who still use the same address and Website - great!

PMG Global Arena would cut down on removal of lettering

Don't waste any money changing the name without a sponsor. If its that difficult to get one, why not have a gala draw in the summer of existing sponsors and let the winner name the stadium? The Globe sounds OK for now and I think any new sponsor really needs to be for 5 years +

With regard to sponsorship agents my experience is that they normally charge 20%. Some charge less if the fee is considerable and/or where they have an exclusive deal.

Maybe we should just rename it 'The [insert sponsors name here] Arena'. We'd certainly get some publicity by doing that

Globe Management Services were the official name of Globe Construction. The offices don't exist and they've gone. There is/was a phoenix company set up shortly after but they've not won any work of any significance to my knowledge.

From what I hear, EDF are not in the greatest of positions themselves! It has been mentioned before but who is this firm filling the fields of Heysham with solar panels? They must have few quid and have recently paid for the Lifeboats in Barrow for the next 12 months.

I think you mean 'DONG', the windfarm people. They have funded a lifeboat in Barrer.
It's Novus Solar Development Ltd doing the solar panel thangg!
As previous, Dong Arena has a certain ring to it.
Actually sounds a bit Chinese, too,
but is, of course, Danish.
