Parking tickets

Surprised to see PC Plod sticking fixed penalty notices on cars parked on Westgate outside the stadium this afternoon. Can't see what law they're breaking. There are no double yellow lines and the cycle lane is a dotted line between it and the road. So, there's no offence! The only possible offence is of obstruction, but cars parked there aren't obstructing the road.

Upto a few months ago, they put no parking cones on one side, but they stopped doing that, so, yes, recently, cars parked on both sides have narrowed Westgate, but surely, the answer is for them to either put cones out or get the traffic by laws changed to get double yellows put down.

Has anyone been the unlucky recipient of one today? What violation code is cited on the ticket?

Saw them slapping a ticket on a white Range Rover on my walk to the ground.

I said to my nephew, "I bet if there's other cars parked behind it on our way back, they WON'T have a ticket"

I was right. They didn't have a ticket.

White RR was still there though with ticket on - cars behind it - nothing.

Simple - You cannot park in a cycle lane.

I have been hoping the 'i'l park where I want with no common sense idiots' to get tickets for a while and very pleased to see them all (that were there at the time) slapped with fines

Certainly no yellow lines where the cars park but they are blocking the cycle lane, this must then cause a danger to cyclists and other road users, Ive thought all season that these cars could end up with tickets, today was the first time Ive seen it happen, is it not an offence to park on the cycle lane (I genuinely don't know), it was the police issuing tickets, mind you they were probably bored as lots of them and very little action to trouble them....

There are double yellow lines on part of the cycle lane but not on others. Surely this suggests the area of cycle track without double yellows is legal to park on? Either way it is not clear, I'm sure plenty of those who received tickets today will not have realised they were parking illegally.

The cars havn't broken a law, which is why I'm interested in what violation code was used. It's the law that matters, not common sense, fairness, rights, etc.

It's also confusing because within sight, there are double yellow lines in the same cycle lane - so it's entirely reasonable for someone to think that's it's ok to park when the lines cease. Why put lines in some places and not others.

Also noticeable that further down Westgate, nearer to the old Do It All, there were some cars parked blocking the cycle lane that hadn't been ticketed, so not even any consistency.

Can common sense not come in to it? I don't think parking on corners is illegal but it is moronic and dangerous and ticket would be justified imo, even if no yellow lines (can't put them everywhere!)
