Captain next year

For me, step forward Alex Kenyon. Every game I've been to he's the most vocal on the pitch and puts his all in week in week out.

He's maturing into a decent central midfielder.

Oh yeah. Shocking how you forget he's even here!

Well, make him vice captain.

He's been good the last few games but everyone wanted him released before Xmas, might be worth q new contract but definitely not captain !

How can a player who isn't good enough to warrant a place in the starting line up every week be considered for captaincy.

Assuming he's fit, got to be Peter Murphy - during his short appearances, he led the team very well indeed.

I don't think we should have a fixed vice-captain. Beeley has been woeful this year and his leadership (or lack of) has contributed to the poor performances in my opinion. I presume Jim made him vice-captain as a consolation prize in the anticipation he wouldn't be needed and that PM would be the captain, and has been stuck with his decision.

Let's see who Jim brings in during the Summer - a new central defender is almost essential, so the new guy could well be the next substitute captain when PM isn't on.

I agree Kenyon is turning into a mature player, but probably still too early for captaincy - it's not just about motivation and who can shout loudest, it's about strategy, so you need a thinker. (So that rules out Flemmo  )

Jim has been consistent in his observation that we badly need leaders on the field, in fact ever since we lost Murphy the problem has remained and I'm surprised nothing was done about it especially when it was identified by Jim as a weakness.

Will not go down well with some on here but I'd have asked Kevin to be captain as the problem only got worse as the season progressed.

Kenyon? Is he under contract for next season? I hope not. He isn't good enough for League football let alone taking responsibility.

Murphy is the only option fit for purpose

Assuming he is fully fit Captain has to be Peter Murphy.

I think Shaun Beeley was the wrong choice. I would have gone for Ellison or Edwards but there are no stand-out candidates.

Edwards will captain the side tonight, still only 22 we forget how young he is sometimes considering how many games he's played, maybe he's the man until Murphy returns ?

That's really disappointing news about Murphy.

He was the player we missed all season in terms of leadership and steel. The fact that we'll be starting the season without him convinces me that we need another player in his mould for when Peter isn't available.
