Fixture Congestion

Postby marky No.1 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 11:21 pm

I know they havn't even been announced yet, but with the EFL Cup and the new format of the EFL Trophy on top of the League fixtures on Tuesdays, not to mention that our squad will be thin on the ground anyway, I can't see us being too happy about this.. we normally moan about playing Saturday/Tuesday anyway.
So do we concentrate on the League and ignore the Cup games :?
We've never really had a Cup run for a long time anyway :(

Priority has to be staying in the league but we can't ignore the cups as we need a run/runs in order for the club to survive. No point in staying in the league if we are then going to go bust :?

The club can't afford anymore cup cock-ups like Dover and D&R. We need the revenue. Our losses were a good £200k less in the year we had the Wolves and Newcastle games - almost certainly that was the tickets and tv monies for those games. It's time for Jim to speculate to accumulate and that means putting on a strong team in the cup games. Yes, I know League status is the number 1 priority, but in any business, you can't run it on one target alone - it's a matter of juggling targets and that's something Jim needs to step up to the plate for this coming year as it could be the last.

Should always play our best teams in the League and FA Cups.

I hope whichever team we stumble across, we can stick with it most of the time, then both the fans and the players have some idea what our gameplan and formation is.
None of this constant swapping and changing please

If we have as small a squad as some of the pessimists have suggested (budget halved etc) then our team should just about pick itself.

We usually do better when down to the "bare bones"

Any idea when the capital one draw is? We normally have the cup draw before the fixtures are out.

EFL are making an announcement early next week to confirm the date and time of the draw. Not sure why there's such a fuss though!

It's mentioned in this article:
