If my memory serves me well
, I remember speaking to Jimbo a few close seasons ago at pre season training and he mentioned that he would love to have been in a position to sign Michael Rose but he chose Rochdale in preference to the Shrimps.
Maybe Jim will get his man after all in what could be an excellent and experienced signing assuming that the terms of any contract are to Michaels liking, which brings into focus the ridiculous suggestion that the playing budget was to be halved.
I didn't go last night (wife's birthday meal was a definate instruction from a higher authority
) but I can't recall a higher number of trialists on view for a long time which suggests to me that things on the take over could be moving at a pace and that Jim has been given the green light to rebuild the squad on a possible INCREASED budget. Time will tell, but I'm getting more and more confident along with a few others that a deal is not that far off.

I take the opposite view.
Jim normally has his squad pretty much done and dusted by the time the first friendly rolls around. This year with the finances being what they are he hasn't had the luxury of being able to compete with other clubs for the targets he had in mind meaning were in a situation now where we're having to bring in a load of trialists to make the numbers up in the friendlies.
Hardly an ideal situation in my opinion but hopefully it works out ok in the end.

Aye, im with shrimpy,,,
Looks like back to the Sammy days when he didn't get things sorted soon enough then was left scratting round for kids and cast-offs or whoever his mates at bigger clubs pushed his way.
Difference is this time its non of the managers doing, just circumstances he's been stuck with. also im happier that its Bentley doing it cos hes more likely to get in players who will want to play for us! Some decent sounding names on that list of triallists weve been hearing about.

Our first season in the league, the previous season friendlies were littered with trialists, most of who did not sign.
It's unlikely that all the current trialists will sign either. It doesn't say anything about the budget - the only indication about our budget is that we lost our two best players to another league two club. It might not have been cut in half, but that strongly implies some form of cut.
If you have evidence to the contrary, feel free to post it rather than pming me offering to share private correspondence between you and a director.

It seems to me looking at the number of players we have already signed and also the fact that Jim has said he still needs "to sign players in all areas" that we have not had any sort of swinging cut to the budget if indeed there has been any budget cut at all.

Nothing to discuss because as you well know that the budget hasn't been halved despite the crap posted that it was.....

There seems to be some myth on here that the budget has been cut by half?
Well at least it keeps being mentioned as being not true by CC, I'm struggling as to where this has come from other than that one mention in a thread, based on what I'm not sure?
Legend? Myth? Rumour? Bullshit? All four?
Quite a few players out of contract were offered deals, some reduced, and they decided whether or not to look elsewhere, some signed, some didn't.
As far as we can see, Jim is cutting his cloth a different way this season and after finishing so poorly, quite rightly, so quite a few different new faces are required.
However, it looks as though we are going to be busy over the friendlies as quite a few decent names and hopeful youngsters battle it out for a contract!!

Yup, in one post as highlighted above. CC like a dog with a very tedious bone.
I find it difficult to believe the budget hasn't been trimmed in some form given the massive drop off in attendances over last season and the continuing losses. I don't believe it to have been cut by anywhere near as much as half, but can't help but feel that those who think it hasn't been cut deluding themselves in spite of a lot of evidence to the contrary.

Dont roll yer eyes at me! Kids and cast offs, all of them fall precisely into one or other catagory. Thing is I reckon Bentley will probably make better decisions than Sam Mac, hence no problem stating some sound decent. Barky was a kid, Devitt and Miller were castoffs (though our current manager sorted them first two out earlier. They worked out better than Capaldi, Rundle and others when our previous manager kept leaving it too late,.

Michael will sign tomorrow after the game. Also signing tomorrow on loan will be jack dunn a striker from Liverpool although for some strange reason he'll play against us before this.
Two good additions I'd say.

Delighted that Michael looks to sign on.
As for the loan from Liverpool just hope that we don't expect him to be a success if we play the high ball game. However play him alongside Cole and that could be interesting. One big un and one little un,.,,,,

When do we ever play with 2 strikers? That would be a novelty. More likely to play as a winger

When we're chasing the game and Edwards is sent up front... so almost every week!
