Fundraising at MFC in years gone by

Time to get some fund raising ideas together again I think.

What was the 200 Club Neil ?? Dare I say it, was it lottery based ...... ?? (Years ago I know - when rules and regulations on such things weren't as stringent as they are today)

All I've seen so far about fund raising is the club knocking back some good ideas. Surely there are ways of raising money for the club without being bound by something fans didn't sign up to?

What I would like to know is the %age of the money raised that actually goes to the club. For example, are the half time draw ticket sellers rewarded for their efforts?

If fans can come up with something that offers a better return for the club then it needs some very serious attention.

As fellow SVers will recall I did suggest a way of raising some funds a short while ago.

To say I was knocked back by the Lottery Manager who started quoting the legalaty of my proposals would be an understatement. I was totally 'pissed off' at the time and even more so now given the circumstances.

I felt at the time that no matter what schemes had been put forward would have been knocked back....

A scheme that involves no element of gambling wouldn't fall foul of any gambling laws. That means, however, that people would be having to give up their money with no element of prize draws and such. It then becomes a simple savings scheme, in that people commit to donating £X/month, all of which is given to the club somehow. There then comes the issue of having control over how that money is spent, and to prevent the club owner(s) using it to pay bills or pay down debt, there would need to be some sort of legally binding agreement to prevent them doing so. In earlier times I wouldn't have worried so much about the latter bit, however at the moment, given the enormous level of uncertainty, I would be very wary.

Gallows humour time.... should we start fundraising for Marky No.1 who may needs a new home shirt.... too embarrassed to wear his current one as he has had 'DIEGO' printed on the back.

If you applied for a lotteries license from the council (£20 per year) there is nothing stopping anybody creating a 100 club type model as operated by many other enterprises around the country for fundraising.... so long as you do this in accordance of the 2005 gambling act. Nothing should be off the table.

Instead of being knocked back, you could have taken it as advice regarding how to do it properly, in accordance with the law? If all you need is an hour of Google time and a £20 licence to not do something illegal, then that was decent, free, advice!

I don't recall that, however if so, then it remains useful advice.
