Not unexpected news sadly.

We're also under a transfer embargo.

So much for Diego's robust plans for the club.

Just listened to the interview with Jim on BBC Radio Lancs and it appears we have been operating under a transfer embargo since before the start of the season. So not a lot has changed in that regard, we had hoped the much heralded new investment would alleviate the situation. Seemingly Tranmere want Stockton back because Micky Mellon (relatively new manager) wants to have a look at him as hes been doing well here on loan. We will work within the restrictions of the embargo, like we did prior to the start of the season, to look to bring in a couple of new faces.

We've been under embargo before (2008?) at the time we were trying to sign Mark Duffy

We've been under an embargo multiple times since being a FL club as I understand it. Pretty sure you're only allowed to spend a certain % of turnover on players wages.

Fairly sure we've been under one on other occasions more recently too.

So if the embargo is turnover related, we can't bring anyone in anyhow?

I don't know the ins and the outs of the confines of operating under a transfer embargo, but seemingly their are concessions that allow you to bring players in, like we did with Stockton, Dunn, Massanka, Whitmore etc at the start of the season - some of that might be the age of players you can bring in looking at the we did at the start of the year (purely speculating mind). We've allegedly been under a transfer embargo since April because of loans outstanding to the PFA.

Not exactly sure what Diego Lemos has brought to the club except more problems and more expense which will become clear in the fullness of time. Not sure what he can say at next week's rumoured board meeting to give him any credibility as owner. As far as I'm concerned he is finished. Pity we cannot retain Stockton. He has looked a better player than Tranmere realised.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tranmere loan him out to someone else after his displays for us.

To be fair this all started long before Diego. The PFA were paying the wages at the end of last season and they took a charge of us secured against the ground. We've still not satisfied that charge and hence we're under embargo.

My understanding is that a deal to sign Cole had been agreed but as we can't we won't. We also can't extend his loan so that's the end of that. I also believe that while we can't sign any players we can loan them. It'll be interesting to see whether we retain any of the other loan players. I can certainly see Massanka returning.
Given our financial position I can also see us selling any players we got a good offer for. It might be the only way to see us through to the end of the season.

.. plus having a smaller squad might actually work for us like it does some teams, making the players more close knit, creating a better vibe in the dressing room. remember Leicester(I know I keep referring to em) before the end of last season in the run in had only used 17 different players.
don't get to down hearted.

OK so long as we don't get any suspensions or injuries.

Closely knit and bare bones are not the same thing at all, how Jim manages to motivate these players at the moment is nothing short of miraculous, but 2 or 3 injuries plus a few suspensions will severely test everyone.

Baxter's "Bare Bones" are not much like Jim's "Bare Bones"
