I saw in last weeks Visitor that Brian Capper died recently, this is sad news.I think he played for us,although I remember he was a coach/physio for us in the late 60s.Also recall him running a youth team 'carleton street' I think. This was in the days before a proper local youth league was organised,i played for westgate wanderers at the time and we used to play them very often.I remember rodney bell and steve hughes played for the older side.Brian also ran a grocers shop on carleton street for many years,I recall him being as daft as a brush, always having a laugh with customers.RIP

I remember Brian well. He was a larger than life character in the 60's and 70's running his shop and doing his football training. RIP Brian.

You've brought back some memories there mate, I played for a Vale United in those days and remember playing against Rodney Bell, don't remember playing against Steve Hughes until the late Seventies when him and his brother played for Morecambe Supporters Club in the Sunday League.
I think we played against Brian's team in the first year of the Service of Youth league, one of our lads got sent off and when the league looked into it he was overage and we got chucked out. Was Brian's team called Carleton Street, I'm not sure

Brian was a tenacious left half who played from 1957/67, a former Everton junior,
became club trainer and reserve manager 1966/68, remained a local afterwards.
RIP Brian Capper
