Home End'ers, you deserve a medal

Yesterday I bought a ticket for the home end, quite a feat in its own right and the first time I've experienced much of what I've read about.

The supporters are fantastic, the facilities are bloody awful. After a pint in the Flyer, time to see what everyone had been whining about.

Could a pie and a pint be that bad an experience? Oh yes it can. I order at the bar, staff are friendly, as i always find staff at the globe, no gripe with them.

So it's wet and I've got a plastic pint of lager poured from a can, and a pie. Hmm, I'll eat the pie before it gets cold. Oh, hang on, nowhere to put my drink besides the bar counter or the floor. No tables, nothing, and have i said it's still wet? I'm well aware there's no cover but it's the bleakest home end I've visited.

Seriously, in all the years at the Globe, there's still not even a few portable gazebo's and somewhere to rest a drink while you eat?

And the price difference of the drink in the warm shelter of the Flyer compared to the home end? 0p. I was going to say the only draught in the Flyer was the beer but i couldn't think of a way to sarcastically throw it in

That's it from Gnasher, time to pack him off to the doggy retirement home but his owner will be at matches when he can and getting involved in more positive ways.

Like you say, it's my preference and perhaps the club should be working out why so many prefer somewhere else on match days.

Match day is an experience, not a football match. I've experienced everything the Globe has to offer except the Home end, and that includes the pre-match bar, W&L, private box, gala dinner and a catered private party for 70. I wanted to see what it was like in the Flyer and when the York opens, I'll be stopping there to see what that's like as well.

Think it's safe to saythat you and I will hardly ever see like to like regarding the current regime. However sometimes you don't appreciate what you have had until something happens to make you realise that things were not that bad after all.

I know my memory isn't what it used to be but I can't recall ever trying to defend the Omega other than for the reduction in it's original plan due to a need to reduce the overall budget.

I accept what others have said about it and wouldn't wish to defend the Board about something that is clearly in the eyes of the Omega public not fit for purpose but changes to its original spec were necessary due to financial constraints as where other areas of the stadium.

The lack of facilities is not acceptable and I have to pay a compliment to Stanley who have provided exemplary facilities at the rear of their recently completed home end improvements.Facilities that would be more than acceptable behind the Omega.

As a matter of interest is it the lack of facilities that are the only issue or is it also the view of the game from its terracing that is also an issue.

Cost cutting during the build? Was the home end cover cut to pay for the extra boxes? Whatever the past, nearly 7 years on, I find it incredible that it is still so poor.

CCTV? Amazing what the club can move in times of need, CCTV control room, turnstile management and the floodlight control but move a few cameras to allow the home end some shelter, naah.

The home end is the life & soul of the ground. It's where the noise comes from to spur on the players, where you'll find the band and the youth the future of the club will need.

My experience is that I used to sit in Block D with my son. I felt it was a better view of the match for my son at that time, as he was younger and smaller.
The catering facilities were obviously better than the Omega.
This is now our second season in the Omega, and as everyone has said, the facilities are very poor,particularly evident when it is raining, and there is no cover for fans when buying food and drink.
But my son and I still enjoy it, mainly because the atmosphere is better with the "energy" from the fans far more evident than in the PMG.
At times, it felt like we were sat in a cemetery in Block D;it was that quiet.
We stand with the same people at each home match,and it has more of a community feel for us, as we are all there supporting the same cause.
So we enjoy being in the Omega, as we feel a sense of belonging and being part of something far more than in the soulless Block D.

Like to think with Dicko out of the way and PMG's influence reduced massively the remaining board might allow the ST to raise some funds for improvements. The CCTV argument was used as PMG still hoped for an additional function room being eventually built. This needs to be a priority for next season.

As much as. I appreciate the offer I'm unable to stand even for a short period of time due to an arthritic knee that I'm waiting to go into hospital for a knee replacement. Cortisone injections only have a limited life span.

As I said before I fully accept that people have issues with the Omega since the Globe opened for business but my understanding was that the facilities are not acceptable,not the viewing experience. If my observations are wrong then accept my apology.
