For those who have missed it, the above is now on the OWS and shows that our new No9 appears to be head and shoulders above his new team mates with regards to height and could be just the player to capitalize on Jimbo's match day tactics of the long ball which although I'm no lover of may this season prove to be successful if we at long last have a centre forward with the stature to benefit from that type of ball.

:) :) :)

Any other insights into his tactics you want to share with us? Itd be really interesting for us fans who don't get to hear his tactics talks to get the kind of in-depth info you've got access to. I wasn't aware it was a definite tactic, just thought it happened now and then. This is great insider info, thanks.

Cheers Seasider.....another year older..but another year less wise.... ;) ;) ;)

I was planning a full days photography in the North Lakes but have had to settle for a day watching my other favourite sport...Le Tour, due to the pouring rain. :)

I assume that the crap weather is affecting pre season training on Turners Field.

Looking at the photo on the OWS, the guy on the right of our Mr Oliver could be very useful in and around the box as he appears to have the ability to ghost into areas where he doesn't get picked up!!!!!! :D :D :D Who is it anyway. I might guess at Aaron Wildig???

If they are then Baz may have saved himself the pain that he went through (along with all the others) last pre season.

From reports it was hell....but all seemed to recognize what an excellent team building exercise it was.

I agree Trevor.
I also wasn't aware of Jim's tactic of the long ball last season.
I would say that we passed it through the midfield more often than not in the games I saw, with Mr Magic Toes pulling the strings with some impressive passing.
Christies Child must be just outside the dressing room on match days!!

Look pal you can roll your eyes all you like. Don't keep making comments that disrespect our manager by implying he's daft enough to tell his players to play the long ball when we don't have a target man, then feel hard done to if someone pulls you up about it.

I lost count of the number of times the ball was pumped up field to a non exiting target man last season only for the opposition to capitalise on the situation. Thank goodness at long last we've a target man to put pressure on the opposition from similar situations.

Just my opinion of course whilst accepting that others will have differing views.....something that I've no problem with, but when I'm accused of disrespecting JImbo I'm thankful that Jim knows me better than that.

You are wriggling. You said it was a Jimbo tactic. So your saying Jim is telling his players to go out and pump long balls upfield when we don't have a target man. So your saying Jim is a tactical fool.

Neil, whilst I agree that it did happen in a number of games, I would say that rather than being a tactic, it generally happened when the team was under considerable pressure from an opposition which closed them down, and this was a panic reaction just to get rid of the ball, and not something that they were instructed or trained to do.

only happened every game then?? Back pass from the halfway line to Baz---hoof, usually onto the head of opponents centrehalf or out for a throwing!

If you still think I’m being unfair on you CC, go up to Jim at the first preseason game and say “well done on bringing in Vadaine Oliver, it’ll be great to have a target man at last, to suit your long-ball matchday tactics” which is precisely what you’ve said here.

See if he really does know you better than to believe your being disrespectful. (Let us know when your doing it so we can watch his reaction). Ta.

EDIT: Oh, and there's a difference between clearing your lines under pressure and using a long ball as a preferred tactic.

I didn't see every game, but I did say 'a number of games'. I'm not denying it was a frequent occurrence, just saying I didn't see it as a tactic.
