Heard this was going to happen and now it's going to be shut for 6 months in January.
Thank goodness for the by pass, but chaos will be on the cards getting in and out of town on Skerton Bridge

Outside of rush hour I don't think it will be that bad.
My main concern is how they will separate the traffic lanes over Skerton Bridge. Obviously there needs to be a 'physical' barrier to prevent people changing lanes. If not the 'chaos on the cards' will be the least of our worries!

They are aiming to start the modifications in September so they will be forming more than double white lines I would think

No problem to those of us over a certain age who learnt to drive on a two way Skerton Bridge.

Even allowing for the 'traffic wasn't as heavy in those days' argument, Skerton Bridge was always a nightmare with long tailbacks.

Yeah, but less dangerous if a horse & cart collided!

Seriously, when did it go one way? Mid-70's? Later than that? Was it tied in with the railway closure?

As Greyhound Bridge was opened for road traffic in 1972, it would be then.

Yeah, but less dangerous if a horse & cart collided!

Although some of the very old cars we had as youngsters, (cheap bangers from the late 50's/early 60,s)
may have had starting handles just in case, I didn't have to carry a knife with an attachment for getting stones out of horses hooves !

Remember my 1st year at school on the bus, it was 2 way and that was September 1973. Think it changed the summer after

My 6 year old is going to loose his mind when I tell him it's been delayed again everytime we go past he asks when it will be open and tonight we were sat there and he said "it's good it's opening at the weekend because it was meant to be finished for my birthday (August) and people are just getting fed up of it now"

Well they will be fed up for another two weeks now

I think the closure of the bridge has had an effect on our gates ,and therefore our clubs income ,and is as good a reason as any for our next annual losses

One thing is for certain, the closure has made no difference to the time getting out of lancaster, all it's done is change where the gridlock starts. The traffic will still go to one lane after the filtration point at the end of the bridge.
