Gate vs Exeter City

I know the weather was shocking yesterday and we have 3 home games on the trot inside a week but a gate of just over 1000 for such an important game was especially poor.
Just to mention the hardy 150 or so that made the long trip from the South West and the home gate was
barely 900 ,if it doesn't warm up by Tuesday the gate will be under 1000 with not many coming from Essex !!

If ,as stated on here before, we have around 600 season ticket holders, that's around 250 or so pay in' s on the day which is a disaster, with a game on Tuesday likely to fare any better you have to ask, does the town deserve a FL club.

I notice that Torquay are still getting bigger gates than us even though they look likely to go down but there are no Premier League clubs anywhere near to tempt the youngsters to go elsewhere. With the amount of premier and championship clubs in Lancashire it pulls a generation away from their local clubs. On the plus side it is more clubs to get loans from but it's probably a small plus weighed against the loss in gate revenue.

Just to emphasise this there are 5 premier clubs in Lancashire compared with none in the South West, 2 Championship clubs compared with 1 in SW and 6 1st Div clubs compared with 2 in SW. I know as a teenager (many years ago) I often went to watch Blackpool rather than Morecambe

A work colleague is a PNE season ticket holder. My next door neighbour is a Blackburn ST holder. My son's best friend is a Liverpool S/T holder. My brother goes to most of Burnley's home matches. Lots of choice around here.

Has been said on here before that there's more PNE season ticket holders or members with La3 La2 etc local postcodes than Morecambe one's.

Still find that hard to believe, Don't know if that's fact?

Yes - my prophecy of a gate under 1000 for the Colchester game was correct - under 900 !!!

Or to play devils advocate - does the football club deserve more fan?

The key factor in our predicament on and off the pitch is the lack of support since becoming a FL team, even in our best season we scraped past the mooted "break even" figure , so no, this town does not deserve a Football league club as it is failing miserably to support one.

Your choice of words astound me

Morecambe doesn't deserve a FL club, give your head a shake!!!

We have 3 games in a week and at the minimum cost of all 3 games is £48.

People are quick enough going on about tory austerity on here when talking about kids not being fed and all the poor People in the area then cone out with comments about last nights gate.

If we are honest with ourselves how many people do you know that could afford 3 games in a week?

Also people forget, in this area was a big industrial area, now alot of jobs are based on lower paid jobs which are also over 7 days per week, have we not thought that maybe some may love to attend but have to work instead.

Please give it a rest and concentrate on the team and being positive and hopefully we will be a FL team next season because the negativity is a joke!!

Simple mathematics mate , 2400 to break even , 1400 average = huge loss....it cannot continue indefinitely.

I agree we need more fans to attend but look at Accrington gates over the years and now they are top of league.

There are many factors to why gates are low but stating morecambe doesn't deserve a FL team your talking about ourselves in the same breath, season ticket holders who buy a shirt each star of season, a programme each match and over priced food each game.

Have you ever thought about joining the Trust I'm sure they would welcome you with your constant negativity, Not!!!

Actually Ispy, in defence of Mr P :o we aren't the people he's having a go at,and he is one of us, but rather those that don't support the club in any way. Whilst I do understand his sentiment, I would suggest the tone of his comments is a little on the forceful side, and I personally hope we continue to have a league club for some time to come.

How can you have a go at people for not supporting a football club? Bar the most dedicated fans, it's just a leisure activity that you do if you feel like it/have the money.

Wasn't that the point of spending all that Sainsbury money on the boxes, hospitality, artificial pitches, gym, etc? To generate profits from other sources. That went well didn't it??? What a cock up!

But even if we got 2,400 and break even, that still doesn't give Jim any more money for players, no money for stadium improvements, etc. We'd need even more than 2,400 to actually improve things.

At the end of the day, the Board can blame the people of Morecambe all they like to try to deflect their own mistakes. Fans have drifted away a few hundred per season, and the Board have done bugger all to stop it.

An interesting read that, 5 years down the line.

On The Hurley Flyer:

"I don’t think the pub will be competition and will work in our favour."

Ho hum.

"I think what we have here as a League 2 standard is exceptional.”

For the stand with his name on, yes. For the North Terrace and Home end though.......
