Hopefully not a couple more youngsters who never get a game.

How many promising youngsters have we had who after a year or two are released? A perfect example would be Luke Jordan who looked destined to be a regular first team player- he has just been released! We don't seem able to develop youngsters to become the first team players of tomorrow.

I am more positive about these 2 than some of our earlier academy products.

They are 19 and 20 years old so not kids and some of their performances on trial in the reserves have been exceptional.

My sentiments exactly.

Seen them play for the Reserves and they were certainly outstanding.

Completely different ballgame I know is League 2 but we'll see how they develop.

I've heard and seen some good things of these two, so a solid start to rebuild from this year with quick, young attacking players. Good stuff!

Both are attacking players. See the interview with them on the OWS.

Welcome Carlos and Lemin. Good to have you on the books :D

A word of advice .....don't take any notice of anything on here as most of us don't know what we are talking about

It's good we have signed such promising players and I'll watch their progress. I'm sorry if NPL Daze thinks my earlier comment was negative but he must accept players like Luke Jordan enjoyed really promising cameos but seemed to lose their way. A club like ours must produce players to grace League 2 and lets hope these two do.

Deakin was also signed last summer with promises of potential. He along with Jordan, have been released without being given any chance in the first XI this season. I think your point is a fair one.

Jordan did seem a good prospect but, as you say, he never really broke into the first team despite a few 'part appearances'. I do wonder whether Jim saw something in his character that didn't quite fit.

Agree about Luke Jordan, who looked powerful going forward and controlled a ball really tightly on the dribble. So, I was surprised.

However, the one thing to say in response is when has Jim been wrong? He’s been right to give them a chance and support the views of his colleagues. Jim, as was shown with Lavelle and Lang does bring them through, if slowly.

I can’t think of a player he’s let go who has gone on to better things. In fact, the last player I can think of we did was Jonathan Smith.

Also on the point Posh makes, McGowan is a success story.

We do seem to release youngsters every season who looked promising (Joe Mswalie, Dan Parkinson, Niall Cowperthwaite, Luke Jordan, Joe McGee to name a few).

But as Posh says, the proof is in the pudding - these players would surely all be getting snapped up by league clubs if they had the ability, and none of them have.

There’s no evidence that Jim has made the wrong decision with any of these academy lads yet, and he sees a lot more of these players in training than we do in matches.

Perhaps it’s just a numbers game - you need to bring through 10 players for every Aaron McGowan? I’m not sure, but in Jim we (I!) trust.

They've all slipped down the Pyramid like a deckchair on the Titanic.

Mwasile (Marine, Warrington, Ashton)
Parkinson (Lancaster, Barrow)
Cowperthwaite (Cartmel FC)
McGee (Buxton).

So, I trust Jim's judgement.

Gomes was a youngster at Athletico Madrid, with a name like that, im surprised a Premiership team hasnt signed him - you rarely see them signing John Smith or Andrew Ramsbottom nowadays

He wasn't. We sold him to them. I think we got about £5k for him and within 18 months Colchester paid about £180k for him.

That was another nail in the coffin for the “Sammy is/was a Genius” crew.

Under Jim Harvey good players rarely left. Under Sammy he let Perks go for next to nothing, Thommo left and went on to play in the Championship, Baker left at the first opportunity, as did Duffy, and of course Danny Carlton. The replacements were largely from the agent’s catalogue and were bone idle. I remember well two senior players complaining about the ‘shite recruits on big salaries littering up the place’. We also had the second highest agent fees in League, yet had talent wanting to run out the door. Who knows what we could have done if a half decent managed could have got a couple more seasons out of some of that lot.
