Blackburn Rovers Reserves are back in action at Christie Park tonight with Manchester United the visitors.

Ian Brunskill has a strong squad to select from with new signing Gael Givet in the squad along with fellow newcomer Nick Blackman.

First team squad players Jason Brown, Zurab Khizanishvili and Martin Olsson will also be involved.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United's side contains a healthy dose of youth, including Italian starlets Federico Macheda and Davide Petrucci. James Chester captains the side after earning his first-team debut last Tuesday against Derby County, while recent signing Ritchie De Laet lines up in the centre of defence.

United Reserves' last run-out was in the Lancashire Senior Cup last Thursday, where goals from Macheda, Petrucci and Febian Brandy gave the Reds a 3-0 win over Altrincham.

The game kicks off at 7pm.

Rovers will select from: Brown, Kane, Givet, Khizanishvili, Winnard, Gunning, Hodge, Doran, Judge, Marshall, Clarke, Villanueva, Olsson, Blackman, Nielsen, Marrow, Haworth, O'Keefe, J Santa Cruz.

Man Utd: Amos, Evans, Derbyshire, Da Laet, Chester, James, Eikrem, Drinkwater, Macheda, Petrucci, Brandy, Stewart, Devlin, Norwood, Bryan, Dudgeon.

Just been watching the action on MUTV in the York - Not a patch on the crowds that used to go and watch this fixture and the pitch is cutting up badly. 0-0 as I write

Why are these reserve squads largely made up of unknowns? Maybe this explains the lower attendances.

What do the players from the first team squad who don't play actually do to earn their money?

I've often wondered the same thing. However, if fringe players were turning out for the ressies and you could go along and see them for a few quid, it would "devalue" going to see them at OT.
