Your opinions on Mandeville

I am a Donny supporter and was wondering how Mandy is doing at Morecambe.

I had really high expectations for him at Donny but the then manager,Fergy, seemed to take against him for whatever reason. I don't think there is any chance of him coming back to Donny but I hope he fulfils his potential for you and makes a career in football.

I am very interested to hear your comments on the boy.

Looked a bit lazy first couple of games, but has dug in and is now looking fitter. He's been playing most of the time and for me, is putting a real shift in.
Jim Bentley is good at handling these type of lads and he seems to be enjoying it and behaving himself

He is beginning to look a quality player and his fitness seems to improve with each game.

Just checked it out and seeing I am in the area I will try and make the Swindon game on the 8/9/18 so I will be able to check him out myself.

Thanks for the first reply.

Mandy takes a great free kick and he went on a good scoring run at one stage, he is certainly not a duffer, I think he is a gem. What he needs is a manager what encourages him and presses the right buttons to get the best out of him, I think he is that special.

I would prefer to see Mandy play behind the front two and encouraged to shoot from range.

First games we didn't have a front 2, so that didn't help him - or anyone else for that matter, will be interesting how we set up for the upcoming away game at Bury

Mandy was at one time striking the ball so well he was made the pen taker until he missed one at Plymouth which resulted in our captain being sent off for grabbing their keeper by the neck. The keeper was taking the mick out of Mandy when Copps, our captain and one of the nicest people in football, ran the full length of the pitch to explain to the GK you don't do that sort of thing and out came the red card. I think that experience had a bad affect on Mandy it knocked his confidence.

Improving in fitness with every game. Looks dejected when we don't deserve to be defeated ie v Oldham.
Get the impression that he's the type of player who needs a managerial cuddle every now and then. Seem low on confidence at the start but is now gaining more in every game knowing that he will be in the starting 11 for every game.

You are so right Redrobo. He is an intelligent kid which makes him just a little harder to deal with but if your manager presses the right buttons he will respond, you have a gem. I hope he stays with Morecombe and reaches his full potential.

Have a good season Morecombe.

Not had a player like Manderville for years, very comfortable on the ball, controlling the ball, reminds me a little of Carl Baker , and has a couple of his “moves”,

Just a small point, and not having a go as a) it's good to get the opinion of someone from outside and b) it's a very common mistake, but it's MorecAmbe.

My apologies, spelling is not one of strong points and you were quite right to point it out.

No need to apologise. You're not the first and you'll not be the last. Even the BBC's been known to spell it that way.

I definitely thought it was a shot! He shaped up to have a crack and it flew in. Other than that, not much today, but then no-one was outstanding so...

I think Mandeville is being flogged to death on the right wing/inside forward. He is forever tracking back and looks knackered all of the game. He should be in the middle of the pitch dictating things rather than tracking back and defending.

He looks a class act on the ball and if he wasn't blowing out of his arse so much, would be a real asset.

Have to agree about Mander's we are not getting the best out of him due to him playing for me out of his comfort zone by being asked to track back. He is the one player in the team who has the ability to unlock doors and should be used purely in a creative capacity. Sod the believe that every player has to accept some defensive duties. I said close season that we needed a midfield destroyer in the 'Yard Dog' mould. Maybe Tutt when we eventually get him fit will fill that role and allow the talent of Mander's to flourish?

Great goal at Bury. Was it a cross or shot? Only he knows.

BW, That was the biggest criticism of Mandy at Donny, lack of fitness. Personally I think you are right and I would go so far as to say cut down the tracking back, play him behind a front two and encourage him to shoot from distance. Get behind this kid, bags of support and he will come up with the goods.

You can tell he is quality and you can tell the opposition know he is quality. As soon as he gets the ball they have 2 men covering him but not diving in , just jockeying him like you do against good players.
As you say his best position is just behind the strikers.

He seems very quiet as well. He walks away muttering to himself rather than bollocking team mates or demanding the ball. He is class, just wasted doing what he is doing.

Thank you for the comments on Mandy and so far they have all be positive. I think it is obvious I rate the kid, he is young, has a lot to learn but is a little fragile, that's why he needs that arm around his shoulder when he has a poor game. Its sad but he wont be coming back to Donny, I hope he makes it at Morecambe.

Handled correctly he is a little gem.

I will be there on Saturday to watch him myself.
