I liked him as a Player, did well for Man United & England, and is well thought of at Inter Milan.
And he comes across alright on TV compared to Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage and others i could mention.
The Books ive read in general he was liked by his team mates and took no shit.

Intresting that he took over when they were 7 points a drift at the bottom of L2, and kept them up.
Macclesfield Town
On 23 October 2006, Ince was confirmed as the new player-manager of Macclesfield Town in succession to Brian Horton. He joined Macclesfield with the club bottom of League Two, seven points off their nearest rivals. He then revived confidence and after a 3–0 win against Chester they managed to climb off the bottom of the table. They subsequently avoided relegation, albeit on the last day of the season. On 4 January 2007 Ince was named as League Two Manager of the Month for December.

I wouldn't rule this out as untrue. We have new owners who have said they are keen on publicity. They even said the infamous Karius tweet got everyone talking which wasn't a bad thing for them. A big name leaked to the papers? I can see this being a publicity stunt because how else would the papers get stuff like this about lowly Morecambe?

It may be a way of getting some TV money.
Paul Ince's Morecambe , you can hear Jeff Stelling saying it !

Well, another former Man Utd player actually got us promotion into the EFL. So ..... why not?? Something has to happen very soon or it will be too late.
I actually met Paul Ince at a Football Dinner many years ago and was very impressed by his sincerity and honesty.
As I say ......... SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN VERY SOON ............... so maybe????????

Not sure about Director of Football. Might make it even more confusing for the players if they're getting instructions from both a manager and a director, especially if their views contrast. Also it belittles Jim as the board are basically saying that he needs someone to hold his hand.
New manager needed for me this smacks of being a half hearted idea.

I find this hard to believe as MFC don't communicate anything so how on earth have the press got it.
If true it's like we don't have the bottle to sack Jim so we will get him some help. Thing is having a director of football won't change Jims team selection and tactics.
But surley what we would pay Ince would pay off Jim.

This sounds like a confusing solution to our current problems. Puzzled how a director of football, manager and assistant manager would work let alone what this compromise would cost us! Who would make decisions, who would pick the team, who would train the team? Who decides the tactics to be employed? Who would decide some players should leave asap? Lots of questions and lots of potential for confusion. If the owners feel new direction is needed they should take the difficult decisions.

If there is any truth in this, surely he should be made manager not DoF? It's a pointless role to appoint mid-season too. My understanding is that the DoF comes into play when getting players and hiring/working with managers to achieve a style of football, like in the system Watford employ.
We don't really need that at the moment, we need a new manager/'head coach'. Ince's track record in the league is pretty good and it's definitely a move that would garner plenty of media attention. Not sure I quite buy it at this point yet though.

Looking forward to some comment from the Board regarding this matter
Hopefully nothing more than newspaper tittle tattle but could be of more concern to JB and Co if the article is true as I can't see either of them being prepared to take the matter lightly.
Someone suggested that it could be a way to get them to resign, negating the need for substantial compensation.

IF it is true, it reminds me of when Liverpoo were unwilling to sack club stalwart Roy Evans so they brought in Houllier to work along side him. That didn't end well for Roy and he soon resigned. I hope that isn't the plan because Jim deserves better than that after 16 years. He should be allowed to walk away and continue his career somewhere else.

Wonder if this idea has been discussed with Jim and Co and has got their approval despite reservations about the whole idea. Still no comment by the new owners who it would appear have instigated this, but it could be some journalist having time on his hands and told by his editor to create some headline be it true or untrue.

One of the comments at the bottom of the article:
"GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE. HE WAS A DISASTER AS TANGERINE SEASIDERS MANAGER, HE SPENT ALL HIS TIME RUNNING AROUND THE COUNTRY TRYING TO ENGINEER A LUCRATIVE MOVE FOR HIS SON. THE CLUBS CURRENT PROBLEMS WERE ALL STARTED BY THIS BLOKE. IF THERE IS ANY MONEY AT THE SHRIMPERS HE WILL FIND IT."

Well there is no chance of him finding any money but if he could pull of a deal for someone to buy Oliver that would be a good start.

How can a club strapped for cash afford to pay a Director of Football, a manager and an assistant manager?
