Welcome Florent, with our growing injury list especially in midfield he'll be a welcome addition to our match day squad. However he'll be short of match fitness so we can't expect too much of him at the moment. Must be a first for our club signing a Belgium born player.

Looks as though he played 45 games for Walsall.

Absolutely redrobbo. Another positive move by the club, and hopefully he does the business for us. COYS.

Welcome Florent. Just a note though: don't be offended by some of the spellings of your name that are likely to appear on here. (No names mentioned of course ;) )

From the BBC Website:

"I feel like a lion on the hunt for meat but I am on the hunt for football."

It's safe to say that new Morecambe midfielder Florent Cuvelier endured a difficult start to the season after being released by Walsall in the summer.

At the age of 26 the former Belgium Under-21 international found himself out of the game and delivering pizzas to pay the bills.

But on Friday, the League Two Shrimps gave him a short-term deal until 25 January to end a "difficult" couple of months for him and his family.

"It put things in perspective when you go from playing football professionally for 10 years and then you find yourself at the beginning of the season without a club or any income but the bills and the mortgage are still coming through," he told BBC Lancashire.

"You need to find a way of getting some money in and for me it was delivering pizzas."

He added: "The last couple of months have been very difficult mentally for me and my wife.

"I've spent all these weekends at home sat on my sofa thinking that if anyone gives me an opportunity they will not regret it. I want to get my career going again."

The former Stoke and Sheffield United man said that he went running at 5:30 am and would go to the gym "two or three times a day" to keep fit.

The Belgian was an unused sub for the League Two strugglers in Saturday's draw with Newport but feels like he can have a big impact for Jim Bentley's men.

"Every day in training is an opportunity to get sharper, stronger, fitter and to impress," he said.

"For me watching the game on Saturday put stars in my eyes and even more fight in my belly to get in the team and get myself going again."

Hope the lad will manage to stay fit and elevate the team and his own career. Fair bit of bad luck in his past, has the makings of a nice redemption story.

Love that attitude. If the whole squad had that we'd be winning every week! Let's hope he can pass on that enthusiasm and drive.

Got some valuable match time under his belt in yesterdays 4-1 defeat in the Rotherham reserve game.

Oswell got himself the goal for us and by the sounds of the match report on the OWS played well.

Good to see Thomo played as well as Kenyon.

No feed back on how T,K and our new lad performed however.

Florent Cuvelier not even on the bench yesterday. Anyone know why? Injured or behind Ben and Carlos?

Was wondering that myself. Maybe got a knock or something in the reserve game the other day which was his first competitive game since last season.

Headley was on the bench as the home grown player now required y the efl.

Bench was actually quite good quality yesterday with Kenyon and Old's return, so I think Cuvelier will be way down the list until he's back to full match fitness and "gel'd" with the rest of the team. I'd say it's early days for any regular appearances even on the bench unless things get desperate again with injuries/suspensions.

Been playing Football Manager 2019, managing Morecambe. Florent's in the squad from the get-go and an absolute beast. Not that Football Manager hasn't overrated duds in the past, but I'm hopeful.

I suspect it will depend on his general fitness BUT I for one hope that he gets an opportunity and that could be v Sunderland which for me is another reason to be there. Understand that they have sold 1400 tickets so even if only half turn up will be a good atmosphere....from their lot...at least :!: :!: :!:

He's got a pretty decent record for turning players around whose career had been failing. You won't even give him that???

Only saying that 3 months is not a long time to judge someone who is not match fit to start with.

It wasn't your comment that I was referring to, it was the "don't hold your breath on that one" response from a 'Bentley out' campaigner  I think Jim has a good record for turning careers around. Don't forget, he'll also be seeing the lad in training too. No point throwing him on until he's fit anyway, or it could do more harm than good.
